Exclamation Very weird smoking, need pro's help!...

This is a 2 stage thing, very very weird, i dont understand it at all....

Hey guys, i was putting on my intake cone filter to day, got it on and everything, had my car parked on a slight hill towards my garage, finished putting the filter on, started my car and let it idle for a bit, i was talking with my dad and a neighbor and my dad was like "anthony is that your car smoking like that...?" i looked and surely enough it was, i was like "what the ****" and revved it a bit, a little more smoke came out when i revved and i was wondering what was going on, i took it around the block and came back, didnt smoke, i set it level in the ally and revved it a little bit, nothing.... i held the revvs at 5000rpm for 10-15secs, no smoke at all, i dont understand what happened, i revved infront of my house and got a friend to watch and there was a very faint coloring to the exhaust, he said it was blue/dark blue but he could barely see it at all, i did revv too 7500rpm that time but after my car was parked on that angle it hasnt smoked, whats going on, anyone know?, is it something to worry about?...

so i was driving to the arcade and testing my car, see if it would smoke, surely enough when i floor it, car makes boost and i ease off there's puffs of smoke that come out my exhaust, decent size too, whats causeing this...?

when we got there and are in the parking lot, i revved my car and a weird squeaking noise ( metal-on-metal ) came from the engine, not sure if it was the turbo but anyways, my friend was behind the car and it wasnt blue smoke that came out, it was a little bit of white smoke out of one exhaust pipe, and thats the only time that happened, whats going on guys!...

here's the kicker, after the arcade i was driving home giving it boost and mild hell, no smoke what-so-ever, not even a little puff, what the ****!...

someone help!, i'm in desperate need for either my worst thought to come true or my worrying being eased.... i'm not understanding why it's doing this and i need help, seams like this happened after putting the filter on, wtf would that have to do with anything?...

would it only happen when the car's warm/hot?... i drove it mabe 5-10mins home after it sat for a bit over an hour....

HELP!...

Easy on the reving. Blue smoke is indication of oil. White smoke is fule and coolant. How is your oil level? coolant leval? does coolant smell like gas? What waight oil are you using and brand? It is not abnormal for a few puffs of white smoke on start up. But not anything that should linger. What does the smoke smell like? You shouldent have to rev it like that to see smoke from a side seal.

oil level is alright, i added some today, coolant level is alright aswell, as far as i've checked the over flow though, as for the scent of the coolant i'll go check now....

the smoke doesent linger, i revved and saw the white smoke after we drove there, car was warm and everything, i revved and a white puff came, i wasnt sure what the hell was going on, but none of the smoke lingered, only the oil smoke the first time when it was in the ally, hasnt done it since, even when i start the car again, nothing, and my friend didnt get a good wiff of the white smoke, he was about 2feet from it....

the coolant in the over-flow smells like coolant, not gas at all....

oh, and i'm using 10W30 oil, but i recently started putting 20W50 in, thats the litre i just put in actually, i was told it's best.... mabe the 10W30 gets too light and bypasses the turbo seals?...

How steep of an incline? Car facing towards the top? It's probably just the oil flow backing up a bit in the turbo from being on the incline causing the turbo seals to leak, which is why it goes away when flat.

Smoke on revving the **** out of it is usual on decel.

Go rent a coolant pressure tester at a local auto store and give it a whirl, chances are you're just over-reacting.

yeah the car's front was tilted up and on a decent incline, front was raised mabe a foot and a half'ish....

yeah i was revving it pretty good, and it did stop after i took it around the block, but when we drove too the arcade it did smoke a bit, so it sounds half decent for it to go away...?

Do you have a S4? The OMP rod could be stuck open or getting stuck.

I got you PM and thought of a couple things you could try.

First thing to do is wait until your car is nice and cool, then take the cap off the filler neck and start the car. You shouldn't see bubbles in there, and if you give it a bit of throttle the coolant should be sucked in towards the engine and you shouldn't get anything splashing out. If you are, then you have a coolant seal issue in the engine, or you could possible have a coolant leak in the turbo as well (I'm assuming you still have the stock turbo).

Second thing would be to check for any kinked lines running to the turbo, and pull your dipstick and see if it smells like gas. If there's a strong gas odor on the dipstick you're getting alot of blow-by which could also mean more oil is being burned then it should.

Next would be checking the spark plugs for fowling or any abnormal wear, then check the intake side of the turbo for any fluids that should not be here. If there's any oil or such there you're probably dealing with a bad oil seal on the turbo. If you're feeling lucky you can remove the downpipe off the back of the turbo and look for oil there as well, but that hardware is old as hell and you may have difficulties pulling it off without messing something up.

Good luck!

pulled the stick and it's well.... dark and doesent really smell like gas at all, mabe faintly but i couldnt really smell anything other then, oil....

it's dark out so pulling plugs is out aswell as the coolant thing, it's odd because it doesent even puff the slightest bit of smoke now, i dont get it....

i also took off the rad cap while the car was sitting and poked my finger in the filler neck, there's definitly coolant in there, so i'm stuck for idea's.... mabe it was a freak puff of smoke, like, water or.... something...?

I know this is simple but did you plug the elctrical connector back in the air flow meter after you put on the intake, if you dident the car would smoke.

that eased me too dude, thanx, appreciate it....

i dont want my engine to pop or have my seals **** out, i already spent $1600 in repairs that were suposed to go too mods, fuel pump, injectors, boost controller, full intake and BNR stage 3-4, *sniff*....

There's no need to speculate really, like I said. Do a coolant pressure check and that will answer your questions. Like we were saying, you're probably just over reacting

mine did the same yesterday, i was parked on a steep incline and my friend says" let me hear this thing, so i rev it to 6 and let off, and smoke boils everywhere, then nothing happens at all and the car acts perfectly fine. strange

Then don't park on an incline.
