Very Strange Clutch (pedal?) Problem

Hello All,

My 1987 RX-7 is having some issues. It is bone stock except an air intake from the prev owner. I let my girlfriend take it to the store today and she couldn't get it started on her way home. She had someone help her, this guy was apparently was messin around under the hood.

So, everytime I depress the clutch pedal the engine RPM's jump to 3000-3500 and some of the interior electronics (lights, heater, etc) turn off. I'm at a total loss. I don't know if that fool screwed with something under the hood or if its clutch related.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check around the Clutch fork,On the Transmission.By the Firewall.
Check The Routing of the Throttle cable,Right around the Clutch fork area.
I think what happened is your Throttle cable is Getting caught on your clutch fork and making the engine rev up.
Check that area for Loose wires too..Especially the alternator Connection.(NOT the big wire,,the connector).

I didn't know the throttle cable came anywhere near the clutch fork.

There is a wire that goes from the firewall to a black box on one of your slave cylinder screws. Check that wire and the connections out really good.

Thanks for your help guys. As it turns out the ignition switch was getting stuck all the way foward in the "start" detent and wasnt returning to "on". So everytime I would depress the clutch and triggered the safety switch the starter would engage and it would go into cranking mode or whatever you want to call it. I guess she just put everything she had into turning that key. I guess that helps sometimes.... or something

Thanks for letting us know what was causing it. It might happen to one of us some day.
