vert trunk wont open...IDEAS??

I tried to open the trunk on my 89 fc, and no matter what i cant get it open. I tried the key, and it turns, but the latch wont release. I also pulled the lever inside, but the cable must be disconnected. Do you guys have any ideas on how to get it open short of a crowbar?? Thanks

Mine did this a lot, and I kinda' fixed it with some new springs in the latch itself.

Try pushing down on the trunk while you turn the key.

you can get to it by stripping out the material in the trunk and taking out the covers and what not while the top is in the up position (closed) ... someone correct me if im wrong

It's a nightmare to try to go through the interior and trunk panel.

You're sure the cable doesn't work and it's not in valet lock-out mode?

You tried pushing down on the trunk lid a little while turning the key?

Try pulling the lever at diffirent angles instead of just the upward angle. My vert trunk, wont open wen i pull it straight up, only wen i pull real hard at an angle on the lever inside...

Now ii got mine at an auction and it was sitting for a while. At first i thought it would not open by using the key, but really i was unlocking it but, i just had to pull up real hard to get it open. Since then i lubed up the arms and it opens just fine..

Definetely try pushing up and down on the trunk will turning the key and try tapping in different places with a rubber malet. I have also seen trunk get stuck closed from objects in the trunk jammin in the locking mechanism when the trunk is closed. This required extra pulling to get it open.

Spray a ton of WD-40 in the lock to try and lube the mechanism also.

yea, its not the valet lock-out mode because the key wont make the latch open. I did try pushing on the trunk and turning the key, but that wont work. When i turn the key, there is no pressure on the key. With my 90 vert, when you turn the key it clicks and pops the trunk. The 89 wont click at all, and turns with no effort in either direction. The lever inside has no pressure on it either. it will even stay up on its own. Is the cable run underneith the car?

How would i get to the trunk from the inside of the car?

If you pull up the spare, you can get some skinny *** arms under the supports and into the trunk. You'd then have to push the plastic liner of the trunk around and you could probably get to the mechanism and fiddle around with it to open it.

+ 1 for pushing down while you unlock it with the key and then pull really ******* hard on it to raise it - the hinges on mine need coaxing.

A friend of mine just bought an 89 vert and is having the same problem. He was able to pull the lever and open the trunk a few times. Then, when he tried to open it with the key, the trunk would not open. He then tried again with the lever and now the trunk won't open from there either. He's tried everything mentioned in this thread except for gaining access to the trunk from the spare tire.

Was there ever any resolution here?

Oh...and BTW....this is my first post and I apologize up front if I overstepped in any way.

thanks in advance!

Trunk lid push downs, working the keylock while bumpin'/tappin' with a rubber mallet.

May also help to have someone work the interior release while another turns the keylock.
