Exclamation Vert Top Care

I have had my 88 red vert since she was born. Keep her garaged and have used several products on the top but wanted to see what other vert owners might recommend. Its my fourth RX and its a keeper unless the rag the new 8.

BTW... Just found this forum and its great if it would just stop asking me to sign on every time I want to do something and yes I am registered. I have to keep signing on over and over with every task I do.

Tx in advance,

Terri

I've pretty much alsways used whatever I'm currently using for vinyl/rubber protection. Mine stays garaged and covered so may not be a good example.

May want to check you browser settings for history, if you're using same computer should dump a cookie on machine to keep settings.

Thanks

Thanks for the post. The treatments I use for my trim, etc ran on the vert top when it got wet so I stopped using it. Since the top is not rubber or a true vinyl I want to use something specifically for it's material type. I have used Mazda top dressing which is a white lotion and its ok but wondered what else is out there. I know NOT to use Armoral (sp?) on the top..its a mess.

My cookies were set correctly but all of a sudden I can do what I want to do. Another forum question. My birthday is correct in my profile but when I view my profile from a post it shows Dec 31, 1969. HUH? Not even close. Where is that coming from? UPDATE: I removed the year from my birthday and now the month/day show up correctly. Must be some kind of quirk on the profile???

Terri

In my manual it says to use regular old soap and water like you use to wash the rest of the car.

I use "mothers" top cleaner and their protectant. I have the cloth top with the real glass window. Also I noticed this top doesnt have the lillte button snaps for a boot to go on it. Anyone else have on of these?

Never saw a cloth top on a 2nd gen Rx...hmmmm. I have the heavy vinyl type top with the removable targa center and it has the boot buttons but I have not used the boot in years...too hard to take off/put on in stormy summer season....lol.

I trust Mothers products for everything else so will check it out for the top...tx

Mine also has the removable targa section. Also has real glass rear. I was just curious I really would like to have a boot, but I see no way to attach one know.
The mother stuff I got was from Autozone, pretty reasonable. Works well.

Robbins has a aftermarket factory replacement canvas top. If mine needs replacing ever again, I woul go with the Canvas top as it lasts forever.

What does your top have to hold down the lower sides and rear edges to the car??? Bolts or???

In reply to Samps.....soap and water are great to clean top but to make it a bit shiny and better looking something else is needed over time.

If you want to avoid the classic tears that occur on each side:
Never operate the top when temperatures are below 50 degrees. The top shrinks enough that it causes problems.

I thinnk the guy that installed mine < previous owner had done it before I bought the car > did a crap job.
It leaks in and drips on my seats. Seems to be coming from the tops of the windows. Kinda like they dont make a seal of any type. Any thoughts?

Vaughnc ...thanks oodles. I love Rx people..everyone is always so helpful. I belong to Mazda Club in Wash Dc and they are also always willing to help. I did not however ask them about this topic as I had just found this site and was thrilled.

ha ha... Saw a prosche yesterday with the top down (40 degrees in Atlanta). Now that's dedication !!!!

There are a few purists on this forum who do the mountain drives in 30-40 degree weather with the top down & heater up.

Yep, we love to help.

A few days after I got mine we had a cold front < 20's & lower > I drove EVERYWHERE with the top down. Now, I just save it for my days off.

Icemark.....I am a purist on verts too but after a few years with mine I decided it was not worth the cold that I always caught. Yes, that Atlanta drive is dedicated for sure. I might do the mountain drive thing with heat on; not like driving around locally and that would be fun
