Vert sat for a month ... no start

Well i just got back to my pride and joy and she wont start.....i would attempt to push to start but its auto so that is out the window

I thought she was flooded pulled the fuse, cranked pause crank pause..... try again and nothing not even catching.

She has sat this long before and it has never been an issue, to the best of my knowledge i cant smell fuel out the rear when im cranking.

So i tried a new fuel fuse and nada, i put more gas in (the tank) thinking maybe its low and the gauge is wrong, still nothing.

The tach is bouncing when cranking so it must be getting spark....

Only thing i can think of is Low Compression which i will attempt the rectify with some oil through the plug holes this weekend injected via medicine syringe and/or bad fuel pump

Anything i could be missing guys ?

Before you try to deflood the car again, perform the fuel pressure tests from the FSM. You may also want to check the coils with a spark gap tester. If these tests are good then try a full deflood procedure - pull EGI fuse, plugs, purge the chamber, insert oil to rebuild compression etc...

FWIW, my Vert wouldn't start in 2012 after a short drive. It sat for about 1 month before I tried to start it again. I thought it was flooded but turns out the fuel pump gave up the ghost.

Let us know what worked for you.

Cheers,
George

clean the plugs.keep them out..pull the EGI fuse, roll over 15 seconds...toss a Tablespoon of oil into the plug holes..again roll over 15 seconds..put plugs back in Put EGI back in....Start it and drive away,.

Sorry everyone i have been busy with other things but i have gotten it started two weeks ago and am currently driving it to work to burn off any crud as i need the Etest this month.

If anyone is wondering i put about half a medicine dropper (childs one) full of oil into each leading plug hole and cranked it over without the EGI fuse and let it lube up the seals. Fired her up later that evening. It took no longer than 25 mins for the R/R of the plugs and oil.

I tried only putting a small amount of oil and it was a no go so i had to put more in and repeat the process.

Now i just have to figure out this ice build up in the windows. It never used to do this the past winters and now i basically need to use a ice scraper to clean my windows every day.

Pnoy,

Good to hear that your Vert is up and running again! What windows are icing over - windscreen?

As a hack to reduce condensation on the windscreen, you could put crystal type kitty litter (do NOT use clay type) into an old sock or two (prefer thin socks) and tie off the open end. Then place it along the defrost grill. The crystals will absorb the moisture and prevent window fog. This should help against ice build up too. Be sure to change it frequently when it doesn't absorb the water well. Alternately, let the car warm up in the AM with the defrost set to full blast. Enjoy that last cup of coffee before heading to work.

Cheers,
George

Yeah it really isnt fun having ice shavings inside the car. Usually i dont drive it in the winter, i just dont want it to not run again, so im driving it once a week now.

Thanks man.

Im glad its working again as well, she always seems to "hibernate" for a few months but shes always back to normal eventually.

All the windows are icing over and i dont mean frost, i mean ice. The rear window seems to always have condensation or even drops of water on the inside of it.... which is funny because the back window was not frozen just wet .....

Ill try that hack thanks, i dont drink coffee never got used to the taste.

The problem is the neighbors will hate me if i leave it idling because it has that S5 hunting idle when cold issue and revs up to 1500 then drops and back again only until about 1/4 of the way up the temp gauge usually is a non issue in the summer as i just drive it away. The defroster for the windscreen doesnt even work that great, it defrosts up the half the glass and then stops and i have to play guess where the cars are if im late for work..

Pnoy,

Is your logicon working well or does it give you trouble? Any rapid clicking or chatter when you turn the fan speed on (any position)? What about the temp slider - do you get full cold and full heat?

Make sure that you clean the external drain tubes from the crease (crevasse) of the movable top. Alternately, you can also inspect the drain tubes for leaks. Remove the spare tire cover and look along the pillar. You can also use the kitty litter sock trick at the rear window as well.

Cheers,
George

Sorry correction, it works but doesnt work if you know what i mean.... I can defrost most of the windscreen because it heats up and thaws but it doesnt shoot up past half the windscreen, i dont know if its not powerful enough or what but it blows strong and heats fine.

Just wish i could aim the windscreen vents up higher on it to access more of the frozen parts of it.

Im going to try your trick tonight when i get home see if it helps. Ill also inspect the top in the morning.

Hmm, could your air duct baffles be stuck or a problem with the air mix motor (changes between Body, Legs, Defrost, etc)? When you get into the car tomorrow morning, set the logicon to defrost and check the vents at your feet and body. If you feel air down below or at body level then you have a partial spit between your air mix motor. Do you also hear a motor move when going between any of those air mix positions?
