vert question
ok, first warm day and I want to put down the top on my 88 vert for the first time. I reaf the owners man. put the brake on and car is running... undo the locks and hit the button. I see the dome light dim so I know the motors are doing something but it didnt move. SO I just lay the top down and fold it in. no biggie. same issue putting the top up. I fold up the targa and hit the button nothing but the beep. so I lift the roof and latch it. again no biggie. My question... did I miss something? and am I wrecking anything? the top seemed to move freely.
Thanks in advance

ok not to sound like to much of a newb but, in your opinion was it disconnected or broken? is it a common problem to break like that? is it an easy fix.

I would check the motors with a phillips, while the top is up, following the steps in http://www.cabrio7.org/rx7man14.html, specifically step 2, but counterclockwise, to engage the motors - if you turn the screws counter-clockwise to their stops, and you can still move the top by hand then either the linkage is disconnected on both sides, or both sides are broken.
Hint: I doubt bothe linkages are broken.

well THANKS Karl!!!I followed your steps and it works! I am wondering though... is there any type of circut breaker on those motors? I put it down twice and then it stopped... I disconnected the linkage again (after checking fuses) and the repeated your advice and it works again... I am going to leave it alone for now but other than keeping a phillips in the glove box... any suggestions?

No idea - I have never had that problem, except when my parking brake wasn't all the way up, or the switch was bad.
Perhaps some of the more knolegable people will add to this.

Vert Top
No the car does not have to be running to put the top down or up as long as their is sufficent charge in the battery then the top should operate normally with the car off.

Sound like a bad switch to me of you still have to adjust those motors.....

I didn't understand if it moved electrically or you had to move it manually.
If it did move a bit electrically and has been sitting awhile it probably needs lubrication and some excersize. You should lubricate the linkages with some silicone grease. Sometimes mine sticks a bit. If mine doesn't move immediately, I let off the switch wait a second and try again. That gets it moving. It will move without the engine running, but that's not a good idea. Terrible drain on the battery.
