It has been my (very painful) experience that if that's the problem, you might as well get yourself a whole new motor assembly here on the forum or on eBay. It will never work right—even if you manage to even get the reel back together with the cable wound the right way.

I screwed around with mine for several days going to HD to try to find decent cable clamps, going to Harley shops to see if they knew who could make custom cables locally, and the like. I finally broke down and bought one from Mazdatrix.
and then my headaches went away!
btw, I still have the unit. Someday I will defeat it!

well i got all out, and the 1 cable was snapped off inside and the other wasnt moving... so i might have to break down a get a new 1 but right now the 1 cable is holding the poor window up tied to my driver side arm rest lol

Mine has worked for over two years. I use it a lot. Many members of the forum have successfully rewound the vert window regulators. This place is a can do kind of place, in case you haven't noticed.
It's just you that can't do it.
