Put my 88 convertible on the road today. I was cruzin around with the targa top out. When I went to put it back in this evening, the top wouldn't go down. WTF?! So I manualy lowered and raised the top. What do I have to do to reset the mechanism and motors now?
Also, with e-brake up and shifter in neutral, the beep would happen in the up direction but not in the down. Could my switch be cooked? This switch is within the wiper control switch, not the center console.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Jesse

There is a diagnostic plug on the passengers shock tower that will have the switch outputs as well as ignition power so that you can jumper to raise or lower the top.
It will also tell you if the switch is functioning.
It is pretty rare to have a switch fail on the 88 and 89 models, where it is built into the wiper switch assembly. I would probably be looking at a loose plug first, but again the diagnostic connector and a meter will tell you if the switch is sending the signal.
And as Tournapart mentioned... I do have rebuilt convertible wiper switch assemblys in stock if it turns out your switch is bad.

Thanks for the info Mark.
I went out this morning and just for kicks, I hit the switch....No Problem. I raised and lowered it a half dozen times without a hitch...??? My guess is leaning towards corroded contacts somewhere from moisture buildup. Atlantic coast weather is no joke. It can reek havoc.
I will start tracing wires tomorrow.
Do the convertible motor com's ever get "dead spots" in them?
