Vert owners! Again!

Well do any of you suffer from creeking and rattling noises (from the top's joint rubbing against the door) when driving your vert at high speeds? How do you stop the noises? They're driving me nuts!

Help!!!!

can you be a little more specific or post a photo of where it is coming from. but in the mean time spray a little wd-40 or some type of silicone spray in the offending area. go to (iluvmyrx7) download the fact manual for the top and you can see all the possible parts that may be causing the problem. Rattles and creaks

First, unlatch the two hooks and take a philips screwdriver to tighten the two screws that mount the hook recepticles. Might want to use a (very) little lock-tite on the screw threads before screwing back in. This is the most common fix.

Sometimes the snaps that hold the inner cover of the center panel come loose. Feel and press to push them back. You might have to purchase some replacement snaps from the dealer. The panel simply pulls off, but be very careful as you're dealing with pressboard that can crack easily when you pull on it.

If that doesn't work, then turn the hooks ONE turn clockwise after loosening the jam nut. More than one turn and you'll make it too tight.

I've got a creaking noise somewhere between the hardtop and softop. The little plastic hinge spacers are gone, so that might be part of it.

I think something's loose in the spare tire area as I get a lound "CLANK" when I tosser her

HKS exhaust covers most of the creaking though

be real careful with the spare, have you priced one lately, yours is a bbs , isn't it? if you can't find the spacers you can make them from a gallon plastic milk jug or some thing of the like. ohh do you have a boot for yours ?

Sometimes this bit squeaks.
Sometimes that bit rattles.
Sometimes it's nice and quiet.
Sometimes it seems everything is squeaking and rattling together!

I have become used to the sounds of mine. There are not very many, but mostly it is because I am too tall for the car, and have the seat jammed back against the wind block, which causes a squeaking whenever the seat wiggles. I can fix it, but then my knees are jammed against the steering column and I cannot get my foot off of the clutch to shift. Oh well, I still love her to death and a few squeaks are not going to bother me too much.

But to answer the original question, I do not get any squeaks at high speeds with the top either up or down. My top speed is 127mph with the top down, and a little LESS with the top up. (why would that be?).

I used to get creeking & squeaking from the pivot joints where where hard top latches to the soft top. A thin coating of grease solved the problem.

I have a roll bar in my vert and I would say it is my favorite mod yet. I know the reasons for a vert are a lil different but the overall effect of it are great. It stiffened up the car alot; and it gave me a lil sense of safety. A full cage for the street is a lil extreme, but tell that to the guy who is paralyzed right now because he didn't have one. A rollbar is more practical; it can save your neck, stiffen up the chassis, and is not to cumbersome or heavy. Sort of the in between answer, for the people on the fence.

If you've already shortened the hooks on the top latches and the top still is loose, you can put cork in between to stop those rattles.

Mine squeaks where the targa joints with the soft top, on the passenger side. I just spray it with wd-40 every couple weeks. There was a cosmetic piece of plastic on that, but the friction snaps broke, so now it's bare. I think a heavier oil would last longer, but I don't have one, when I think about it in a store I'll buy some tri-flow or something.

Luckily where I live the top can be down 8-9 months of the year or so, I just have to combat the dust. I put some foam on the hook rests, which really reduced the rattling from the top when it was down and the tonneau cover wasn't on.

Get some of the 3m spray adhesive and eggcrate the underside of the cosmetic cover, that really reduces road noise from the rear wheels, and also should help with any noises you have coming from that area. I did it because I have a sub under the cover, but it would work just as sound deadener too.

Damn bbs wheels. the tire shop didn't torque 1 of the bbs lug cover when they installed tires in January - cost them $100 for just the little cosmetic cover. The yokohama avs db's are a dream, so quiet, and they handle really well. Before I had Bridgestones, which were not scottish.

Yeah I'll be posting a thread and some pics on that cosmetic plastic "hinge cover." It covers the latches to take the hardtop off. The OEM plastic push in piece looks like it would break over time, so I'd imaging a mod is needed here to keep it from flying off in the wind.

Agree. Just got them installed last month, and it has lived up to its name. Nice.
