vert daily driver?

i posted the T2 daily driver thread awhile ago......and here comes an oppertunity to by a vert.

its a 1990 i think, stock everything 118,000KMs with a custom "mercedes benz cloth" top. ex-cali car professionally converted for canadian driving (KM speedo, daytime running lights...it has an A/C, which apparently is not avail in canada for verts)

anyone in here have or use their verts as a daily driver. we're talking vancouver weather in this case......rainy and some snow and such........any input?

thanks a million guys,
Carlos

ps - selling for $10,000CDN.

I know that driving an rx in the snow is hell. I drive my camry in the winter cause I just can't stand the rx. If you do drive a vert in the winter be sure to put some sandbags in the trunk or you're in for trouble, even if you do put sand in the back, it's still no AWD or even FWD.

the top is pretty good at keeping water and snow out for short term, in other words it would prolly be fine as long as you kept the car in the garage at night. i drive my vert everyday rain or shine and it just keeps going.

take it to a car wash to test for leaks - if it can withstand that, no rain is a problem.

Mine is fine in the snow - that's really a tire dependant issue. I'm about to buy my second set of yoko avs db tires for it (stock size). They are great in the wet and snow, and still perform okay. A quality alignment also helps.

Oh yeah, I've put 36000 miles on mine, as my only car. Nary a hiccup or worry (well, two alternators, and the airbag is screwed up somehow). Just do the basic daily maintenance.

I drive mine every day, except when it snows. I think if you just bought some real good mud and snow tires and put some sand in the back it would be doable.

Make sure you are comfortable in it. The headroom is limited (top up, of course), and there is a blind spot that gets annoying.

I got those little 2" by 1" stickon mirrors to fix the blindspot issue. They really help a lot in the five lane madness that is OC.

They're right about the headroom - I'm 5'11"+ and if I sit up too straight my hair will rub the top.

Is 10000 cdn like 7000 us? - if so it's probably too much. Mine was $4500 US with 58000 miles.

I am 6'3" (lots of height in the torso) and I have to slouch with the top up. I always have the top down (except when it is actually raining or snowing), including when there is snow on the ground. You have to go a little easier in the rain/snow, but still doable.

The tires I am running are a new model by Michelin. They are a minivan tire (I think), but have great wet weather and dry weather traction.

I would say a vert is the least practical daily driver of all RX-7's-no trunk space, blind spots, top worries.

Found my Rx7 in a junkyard and is now my daily driver. I was told that it sat in a junkyard for more then a year and i believe it considering the dirt literally in the car. My top does not leek, and it runs great (now). It is currently my daily driver and is wonderful. The drunk is a small worry, but as a daily driver i suspect you mean to work and such? Not really transporting much of anything right? If that's the case, it works well.

Got two 89 verts. Daily driver and cruiser. The only problems are NOOOOOO trunk space if you buy anything bigger than a shoe box, and leaks. The top doesn't leak but the gasket will. At the top of the pillars and passenger side at the hard/soft junction. Been buying gaskets as I can afford them, but figure on replaceing them before the rainy season and you should be OK. About $400 to do 'em all. Aside from that, the top end is lower from the drag. Much slower acceleration over 90 MPH than my old 90 GTU. But MUCH cooler. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Freaking Leaks!

i have a 90 RX7 vert and the !@#$ing thing has a leak that i cant find! its not it the top cuz ive sat in the car and with a hose checked for where it could be coming in. BUT when it rained the night before i was planning on buying a car cover, i opened my car to see that water was covering the sheet metal. i dried it, bought a cover and tried searching for where the water came in from!!!
i have no idea as this is my forst vert ever, and if ANYONE knows the common places where they leak or any ideas as to where it might be, even hints or thought, i would love to hear them!

thx
zeben

There's seriously something wrong here...

There's one person that says "trunk space is bad" then another that says "horrible daily driver out of the 7 series" then another that says "It's hard in the snow, etc."

Then right after those posts, there's "trunk space is good if you don't move stuff around like a truck" "mine's my daily driver and works great(now)" "good daily driver, just get some good tires, and it's fine in the snow..."

Lol. I think the only thing y'all can agree on is the headroom.

7k is expensive as **** for a Vert....

10,000 CAD is just about 10,000 USD
Whoaly ****!! currency is almost exactly the same! This is crazyyyyyy O.O!!!

Yeah, but when this thread was created the rates were dramatically different. The Canadian dollar actually surpassed the US dollar at one point a few days ago.....

$10k CDN for a vert now... no way! But 3 years ago that was probably more like $6-6.5k USD

There's no blind spot when the top is down.

My 88 Vert is my daily driver, and I only put the top up when it's absolutely neccessary.

I use mine as a daily driver. I don't notice the blind spot as much except when backing up (a little bit of hell there). We have limited snowfall here in Phoenix and rain only happens when the natives dance, but it is fun. The trunk is ok. I can put those newer coke 12 pack cases side by side and fill it with groceries. Just don't swing by Home Depot for lumber.

I'm daily driving my vert and because I'm in Phoenix..there is no need to mention a blind spot because I really don't like driving with the top up. I think the vert feels more like an actual cockpit than the GTU/SE/GXL/TII because you have that windbreaker behind you, it's actually a much more relaxing feeling. As far as trunk space goes, it's kinda small but it's not that small. I drove the car from Seattle to Phoenix and it was packed with stuff...so you never really know how big that trunk is until you really have to use it.
