In retrospect though, I wished I had dropped the whole rear subframe...The whole 2 feet of extenstions to the outside of the car was a PITA.

^I hope that's a ******* joke!
If it's not, I'm gonna find you! You just jelous!!! You've never had the joy, of riding with the top down, on a cool night with the stars out!!!!
An unbelivable experiance!
Those chasis reinforcers would only help movement in the direction of left to right. Were as the convertible needs the reinforcement going from front to back.
Although the movement is vert little if any. Otherwise your doors wouldn't ever close right.... And your top wouldn't line up.
Half of you are just talking like mazda just hacked the top off of a coupe, and called it the convertible model.....
Man I hate Florida! I swear we should just cut that **** off the US, and send it to Cuba!
Anyone who hates the vert just needs to go back to there 3rd world country!!!
Now go away, and roll me cigars!

didnt icemark say the verts top has the same stability as the coupes top when its up and locked within 1%? and couldnt u get a rear and front strut tower bar to help?

The solution is only a GXL diff away
I've got a TII rear subframe with an FD TORSEN in it, that will go in soon enough.....I'm not to worried about it though. Not like I have tons of HP, me and my 150 HP don't need it yet

The vert was built on its own production line from the bottom up. It wasn't a silly S13 or Z/ZX or even FWD Celica that started as a coupe, and someone cut the roof off and bolted some parts on and hoped that it would be strong enough to last 10 years.
The 'vert is one of the best handling RX-7s regardless of generation. It was built with increased structural supports. With the top's integrated roll bar, and properly adjusted latches, the vert frame is stiffer than any SA/FB and pretty close to the stiffness of a regualr FC coupe.
Toss in the ability for that same roll bar to fold into the back of the car, and provide the same side to side strength as when the top is up. Yet the best is too come... driving a vert. Top down, Mazda's windblocker up and you can have a conversation or listen to the radio while driving at 85 mph through that mountain switch back. Just like (if not better than) a coupe.
If there are any true weaknesses, the rear vision is limted with the top up (but still night and day better than a 350Z coupe) and in American form, the vert was slightly underpowered (but not as bad as a NA (first gen Miata) is).

A 'vert is gonna become my daily driver after my coupe becomes my weekend warrior. It'll be a crusier, chick-picker-upper, not a powerhouse. I think the verts are ****** awesome for just that- cruisin topless on a warm sunny day with a hot chick next to ya. mmhmm

I have a t2/vert and I love it. Not to mention now that I have 10 grand going inner for this summer. It will be a 375-400 rwhp convertible beast that will out handle most on the road. Oh yeah I am installing a custom rool bar in a few weeks. Because I agree with you on flipping one with a bar.

putting it down daily
Didn't anyone read icemark's post- the one which said both "integrated roll bar" and "rigidity within 1% of the coupe"? Skunk- you been breathin too many epoxy fumes, biznitch. Don't hate on the vert.
As for you, Buk, I hate you. You are driving MY CAR- give it back!!!!

And why would you be ejected... unless maybe you were too dumb to wear seat belts???
And you have to be doing something very very very very stupied to roll a FC and even more stupied to roll a FC3C. I sure wouldn't want to admit that I had a friend that is that clueless or just lacks any common sense and driving skills.

as for the a-pillars being reinforced, i dont trust it (i dont even really trust regular cars with hard tops, i trust 4130 full cages)
and as for my friend, i bet he could out drive you any day of the week! like i said before, freak accidents happen all the time and this just happened to be one of them.

And yes I KNOW THAT THE VERT IS NOT A COUPE WITH NO ROOF. I don't have a problem with the desing of the convertible I know it can handle just as good or close to a coupe i just don't like the desing of it....of any convertible, s13, fc, z32, z33, corvettes, mustangs, ect... I just hate convertibles. I don't fabble anyone's opinion here, why do you fabble mine.
