they should have done a test with just the nitrous and the open intake. prob wouldve put out more :P
anyways, search "turbonator", youll get some opinion.
IMHO, the swirling air WILL help to atomize the fuel and burn it more efficiently.
The GE CF6-50 engine engine found on the B747s have 38 different fuel nozzles. Each nozzle is immediatly followed by an "axial swirler cup". They work the same way this thing does. they contribute a lot the the engines efficiency and smokeless design. the difference is, there is still a LOT of intake manifold between where this thing is installed, and where fuel is injected. leaving you with a restricted intake...

The air, once it reaches the injectors will be turbulent anyway due to the irregularities in the intake (ribs on the stock pipe), and the many turns in the stock intake, so any swirling won't really help, as the air is already tubling around, mixing the fuel around more effectively. Once the air reaches the injectors, the only residual effect I see there being is a larger pressure drop across the intake.
In my educated oppinion, the swirling thing is just marketing BS fed to ignorant people. I think getting an A in a 3rd year Fluid Dynamics class gives me licence to do so ;-)
