VDO A-Pillar gauge pod

Been surfing around looking at the various types of A-Pillar two gauge pods, and I could not help but notice how all are really available except the VDO which is (1) the most expensive and (2) on multi-month back order suggesting they are perhaps the #1 choice. Related, I decided on A-Pillar set up as other alternatives seems to block the view of "something" or has glare issues. I just wish someone made a complete A-Pillar replacement. Ah well.

Did searching, and no answer to the following question. So, I put it out to my 2nd Gen brothers who might have a VDO gauge pod installed in their Rex.

Question is, what is so special about the VDO pod? On one site I saw some vague reference that the individual pods will adjust to improve the view. Is that it?

Side note. In trying to find gauges that might tie into the stock gauges, I'm looking hard as some digitals made by Nordskog whose main offices are in Anaheim, CA. Even though the ever so rare HKS old school gauges are close, they're impossible to find complete with sending units and still not an exact match. So, it seems the separation of an A-Pillar bank of digital gauges with the same color read out would be the best bet for a stock look with reference (a stretch, I know) to the radio's digital read-out. Nordskog has both red and amber colors. Checking them out this weekend. If anybody wants to check out their web site, go to http://www.nordskogperformance.net/

For me it came down to Autometer vs VDO. I was more comfortable with VDO's accuracy and at the time their styling was what I was looking for. So I picked up the matching VDO dual pod (also comes in Dual + 1 = 3).

I know autometer has since brought out a bunch of new "styling lines", but outside of their racing gauges I've not heard if accuracy has improved.

VDO pod

Understand why you went with VDO pod to go with your VDO gauges. But, why the heck is the VDO pod so much more expensive, much less so hard to get?

whats wrong with Autometer pod? we are using them on quite few FC's, it works and its not expensive.....if you need something working, it will do it for both 52 and 60mm gauges, if you are looking for show, make your own...

Nothing wrong with Autometer Pod

Probably the way I'll go. BUT, before I make that purchase I'm trying to find out what the VDO Pod has different that makes it 50% more expensive and 100% more difficult to aquire. For instance, if they allow rotation (kind of like a rear view mirror can be adjusted) of the gauges to adjust view angle, that would explain.

WHO OUT THERE HAS A VDO POD OR KNOWS THE ANSWER!! Or, is it simply that VDO has grown away from continuing to make them and they're no different than Autometers?
