VDI?
I think that variable dynamic intake, or the general name that Mazda gave to the intake system.
do a search on auxilary ports, or secondary ports, or 5th & 6th ports, just do some looking there is alot of information on it here although you will have to sort through alot of crap too. Joe

The VDI stands Variable dynamic Intake. The VDI manifold is also called the upper intake manfifold. Its the manfifold that comes off the lower intake manifold. The VDI on it is the little actuator thingy with the vaccuum hose going to it. Air supplied from the airpump opens the VDI at 5600rpms to change the lenghth of the intake runners to optimize your air intake so you have a powerful low-end, as well as high-end. You can simply wire open the VDI so you don't have to worry about it not opening, but you will lose some low-end torque.
