Question variable resistor location

where is the variable resistor located in my engine bay? and where do I look for it in the FSM?

i know this is a noob question but from all the searching i have done it seems as though it's location is a given to everyone, and just deals with problems and fixes associated with the variable resistor.

thank you for your time,
TR

Its near the passenger side strut tower, its kinda diamond shaped base with a screw in the middle. I dunno what page exactly but I would look in the fuel system section of the FSM.

All the variable resistor does is affect your idle mixture, and nothing else. No need to mess with it unless you are having idle issues or failing emissions at idle readings.

^ failing emissions at idle readings. that is exactly why I am looking for it. I live in MA so i need to pass. thank you guys.

EDIT: on a different note, why would my CAS raise my idle when i turn the CAS ClockWise? for about 1/4 of the distance it moves, nothing happens, but when i turn it further CW it raises my idle. I have no marks left on my Pully, no yellow no paint, I can't even find my little score marks that are supposed to be on there. how would you set your timing in that case?

thank you again,
TR

der, i found it. it's the next thing in the wire/line from the AFM. I am however using a SAFC-2 so i can lean out throttle from there. if i set my SAFC setting to 0 and adjust the VR to set the idle A/R mix then i can go from there and everything should be fine... right?

Other issue is the screw won't turn/stripped-is this thing plastic? Most 2nd gen's I've seen have this probem.

i always wondered what the damn thing did....now i wonder if i makes a difference seeing i have no emission controls and my idle is sorta determined by a stopper screw and where my throttle cable is.
