v8 rx7 yes or no?
next summer I'm planning on rebuilding my turbo 2 engine..should I go with the V8 conversion instead or stick with rotary?..power and reliability wise..any opinion will help. came across this v8 rx7 forum.

heh, this is the rx7club, but i guess some people may go v8. i don't have much food for thought, but as a great sports car as-is, i'd stick with rotary. besides, you can get 500 peak horsees out of that rotary. moreso if needed. i'd prefer a little less. what's your goal? power and reliability is easy to get out of a v8, honestly. but it also depends what all you want. but i of course say rotary.
(why take the ONE car [besides the oldies] with a rotary and drop an american pushrod engine in it?)

V8's like....whoa....thats alot of work......thats gay
what sort of response did you expect vee... you'll hardly get an unbiased response from this temple of rotary...
as far as I can see the only real drawback would be weight (if you exclude ethereal personal things like noise / character etc) and the gains would be low down power, response, and reliability...
not that I'd ever contemplate it though

Should an RX-7 only have a rotary in it? Probably. Does putting a V8 in one warrant all the illogical, overzealous ranting and raving that goes on here whenever its discussed? Hell no...
Personally I just don't like old-tech engines, and that means anything with pushrods. My V8 of choice for an RX-7 would definitely be a Lexus/Toyota 4.0L quad-cam donk.
Wait, I've had a better idea. How about one of these?

Anyone know of any crashed Ferraris?

Do what YOU like. Peoples' opinions are nothing but that; no-one in here can tell you what should or shouldn't be in that engine bay but you. Oh, and it is definately possibly to keep the 50/50 with a swap. But search first next time, this has already been debated...about a hundred times.

But wait I have a SC, so what would be the point... I guess I have both a good handling V8 coupe and a quick little rotary sports car.
Multiple cars for multiple needs, rather than bastardised projects.

V8,
rotary
