Using an FC TII cover on an REW engine..advice.

I would like to change the front of the REW engine to have the S4TII Front Cover and water pump assembly.

From what I gather the oil pan doesn't quite line up,hole wise.
This REW is going in an FC utilizing some mounts that were purchased at Motivefab. There is a thread up HERE:https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...mounts-969881/.
The mounts have been Redesigned and are quite well fabricated.
Thanks to ADAM FOURNIER of MOTIVEFAB.He worked with me on the Deal and I am quite happy with his Customer Service..KUDOS Adam!!

So Questions, since I don't have the engine in my hands yet.(tick tock.after weekend)

Do I use The original FD oil pan and redrill the pan to accept the front FC cover?
Do I use the FC oil pan,and if so do I need to weld the 3 holes on the Passenger side of the engine or plug them with the old mounting bolts(only get shorter bolts?).

Is the bolt pattern pretty well the same on the FD engine to mount an FC pan on it?
I heard that I may need to make a hole or 2 (drill and tap)..if so where.

The reason why I want to use the front cover is to retain my FFE Trigger. So my pulley system will also be FC on the FD engine.

Any other little tips are appreciated.

Thanks Gents.
STYX.

If you have the MOTIFAB MOUNTS you have 2 use the FD oil pan but that is gonna create another issue.Having the FC front cover on the FD motor with the FD oil pan will not work cause the FD oil pan is 2 short and it wont seal up front on the corners for like a good half and inch so the only option is 2 have the FD pan modified up front or build some FD FC oil pan hybrid.
The S4 front cover will fit on the REW but one bolt on the front right side of the front iron wont be used cause the FC front cover does not have that extra bolt hole(no biggie at all)

The easy way to do it is 2 drill and tap the REW center iron 2 accept the passanger side FC mount braket, install FC oil pan on REW(2 small bolts have 2 be tapped on the left rear corner for the oil pan 2 seal perfect)run the FC front cover and done! For the driver side a modified FC bracket will do the trick on the REW.Weld a piece on top of the FC driver mount braket and use the bolt hole that is on the top the center iron(has 2 be tapped a little bigger 2 use a better size bolt)and weld another piece 2 the braket so you can use one of the studs that are by the front iron so that way you have a solid decent mount. The braket will connect the the motor by 3 bolts, one bolt on the factory location, one bolt on top like the RE block aftermarket brakets and one bolt up front by the iron.

ah crap.
I got the MOUNTS already..Paid through the Keester for them to as they got hit by customs and has to ship from USA To Canada.I'd never make any money back on them,so I am using them.

I hate being able not to see what the hell I got to work with!!It would save posting a thread but I appreciate any heads up advice( Thanks Joey).

I am thinking about the oil pan mod and I got a couple extra one here,So I may just do that.

if the new engine mounts reach under and rear mount the motor then just leave it all FD
and put on the FC pulleys and water pump.. ( and PS bracket ) and change the ignition config to 12/1 and setup as FD

you may have to remark the pulley first by rolling it to the -20 mark on the FD pulley and then putting on the FC pulley and making a new mark ( 20 ATDC ) so it works with the FD timing cover pin

ah..my old Pal Bumpstart!!Thanks for chiming in.

You gave me an idea, can I just use the FC Waterpump?

I'm assuming I would have to change this as the FD waterpump is "reverse flow".The pulley goes backwards compared to the direction of the other pulleys as it is run on the "backside" of the belt.

If this is too complicated I think I might save a lot of headache and just use the FD FFE trigger.

pump and pullies will swap right on .. not sure about your FFE trigger wheel but i expect that can be sold easily and replaced with the FD one

Thanks for the advice.
It's been -20 to -25 C here lately so nothing can be accomplished in weather like that.
