urgent AFM question

What does this part of the AFM do? I am assuming it is functional or else it wouldnt be there. The reason I am asking is that it is making fitment difficult in my cold air box.

One more question about the airpump hose. Should I put that in the color air box as well or should I juss leave it loose in the engine bay? I think I should cut another hole in the cold air box so it is heatshielded as well.

If I do put it in the box I need to cut a hole here the black spot

I really need some input on this to finish the final design. Thanks all.

the hose that leads to the air pump should be filtered, the best way to do that is to buy a little cone filter to put on it for about $7-$10.

I have a crank case filter for it. I want to know if I should have the hose going into the cold air box with the crank case filter in the box as well.

confirmed. Air pump doesn't need cold air. Engine doesn't need air pump if you ditch the stock cats.

Cool. Since I dont have to put the air pump hose in the box it will save me the trouble of cutting another hole.

Thanks again you guys the best.

uhmmm he has an s5 car. with no airpump his aux ports (5th/6th) ports won't open. the cold air won't make any difference, however unless your ports are wired open you don't want to ditch your airpump.

Yes I know I have to keep the air pump to open my 5th and 6th ports plus I have to deal with emissions.

Does anybody know whether or not cold air would help to lengthen the life of the cat?

it wont make a difference. the air pump pushes so little air that it wont matter if its cold. your exhaust is a few hundred degrees already so mixing in a bit of cold air isnt going to help anything. i say dont worry about cutting another hole cause it'll be a pain in the butt

bump

Still curious as to what that little nub is on the afm and what is its purpose?

On a sidenote guess what I found in the black plastic elbow... I never noticed it before until today it was a few inches deep in there

I remember seeing these on informercials a few years ago... guess the previous owner thought it would help.
What do you guys think?

That protrusion is the bypass that's used to calibrate the AFM. No, you can't remove it.

Throw that stupid Tornado thing away. It's a restriction that's costing you power.

Yeah. Insert your airpump hose into the afm to boost it.

Sorry, just having some fun.

I have a fram crank case filter that I got for a few bucks. Are fram crank case filters as bad as their oil filters? And will a better crank case filter prolong the life of the cat?

edit: I will remove the tornado I read a thread about it and Icemark said it dynoed at a 5hp loss. Figure that.

yeah, when i bought my TII the guy who sold it to me gave me one of those shitty chips they sell on ebay that supposidly increase the spark curve, which increases HP, and removes the rev limiter......

its all bullshit from what ive been told, so i sold it on ebay for 20 bucks!!
i wasnt about to put it on my car..
so 20 bucks is better than nothing.....sell it on ebay...i bet someone buys it

My advice:
stop spending so much time worrying about the air pump and the cat.

The filter on the intake of the pump is to keep the PUMP from getting chewed up.
