Does anyone know about other websites because ive found racing beat can be a little expensive at times. ALSO ANYONE know where i can get a carb intake kit for my second gen OTHER than racingbeat because 1000 bucks doesnt sound too good to me

eh, why do you want to use a carb? is the motor a carb motor orignially or are you competeing in a racing class requiring it?

Why would you replace a far superior setup for an antiquated piece? EFI improves fuel economy, acceleration, and emissions. Carbs can only be tuned for a specific RPM, so you can set it for near redline for top end power, but your acceleration will suffer, or you will set it for about 4-4.5k and everything else will suffer. Carbs are inferior by a long shot. Also, it isn't that expensive to build a MegaSquirt EFI system (~$250-$300). In fact, it's less than buying just the LIM that mounts to a down draft carb. In the end, if you want good acceleration, you'll buy the carb, get fed up, sell it at a major loss, and then go with a stand-alone EMS with EFI. Total waste of money and time IMHO.

EDIT: Unless you're racing it in a GT-3 or GT-4 class, i.e. E-Prod or something, you can (and are required for E-Prod to) keep the stock EFI system, with some minor mods (i.e. surge tank, chipping the stock ECU, etc.). Also, this is according to the SCCA GCR, so I would think that the sanctioning body you would be racing with (assuming this is a race car project with the carb and acceleration questions) would have similar or the same rules, unless you're with NASA (they're weird sometimes...)

EDIT EDIT: How much for the underdrive pully?

well i heard you can gain a lot of horsepower by using a carb.... i was thinking about just getting bigger injectors and trying to get some more air in it. but yeah as the gear ratio goes down the acceleration is faster and top speed slower right.

anyone else know about WHERE I CAN GET UPGRADED GEARS FOR my rx7?

really you dont have another option seconding the dealership or mazdatrix.com

honestly, who ever said a carb can make more horsepower needs to kill themselves. They are flat wrong.

as for the gears again, they are all going to be about the same price seeing they are basically OEM parts anyhow.

and forget the carb system i didnt want to go back to the stone age anyway i was just contemplating. I think ill just buy bigger injectors and ill keep searching for better gearing. im only interested in gearing because my buddies mustang wasnt all that fast until he got new gears. now his mustang is beating NOS'd preludes and supercharged mustangs. (he has other work done) but he wouldnt have won without the gears. so help help help on gears. ask around for me

okay. the places i mentioned above are currently the only gears availible for the FC. you can get a 3.9 (stock on the automatics) a 4.10 (stock on basically all 5spds) and the rare 4.33 out of the GTUs. The 4.33 will increase your acceleration. You also need the pinion the is matched to it. If you are inexperienced with working on the rears of cars, do not attempt it yourself. there are specials tools and tight tolerances that must be checked and measured without really any guide other than knowledge. let a repair shop do it. if they do something wrong, they pay to fix it. if you do it wrong, well....

You can get a 4:88 or a 5:12 gearset from ISC or Speedsource. Be prepared to start at about $1000 for the 4:88 and more for the 5:12.

There is no OEM or aftermarket ring and pinion made for the 2nd Gen. They have to be custom made.

Sylvain Tremblay of Speed Source makes custom ring and pinion sets for FC's. Available in 4.88, or 5.12 ratios.

I shipped my differential to him and he installed the set with a racing limited slip (clutch) unit. Total cost including shipping back to me was $ 1,100. Great quality work, have more than 5 years on it with no problems. Really helps out the acceleration. Engine revs faster. And my car goes through the gears faster. Don't expect great highway cruising with 4.88 or 5.10 gears.

I've seen other companies (2 others) that can do this for FC's. Can't remember their names though.

Sylvain Tremblay/Speed Source has been the dominant force in the IT classes on the East coast with his RX8 & FC RX7. I think he took the championship this year in his RX8 (Grand Am Cup Sport Touring Class). He also campaigns a Grand Am Porsche.
