Upgrade info...

Is there anything i need to do when installing a new underdrive pulley set, aside from just bolting them on?

Also, for exhaust..... Are downpipes only used with turboed cars? Is it street legal to just use a presilencer instead of a cat. conv.?

I've also heard that with this car that it's necessary to upgrade the fuel system also when changing the intake and exhaust.. Is this true?

I also have an automatic, which is a drawback of the car to me. I was wondering if there is anyway to make it have more acceleration off the start. Are there any other ways besides changing the gear ratios or switching to a manual?

Any info would be great, thanks. Sorry if this stuff is already in the forums.

1.) I don't know

2.) Downpipes are for turbo's. No not for emissions. A presilencer is kinda like a muffler that replaces the cat.

3.) I'm assuming you have a N/A. No. The stock fuel system is good for about 250hp. Which takes quite a bit to reach in a N/A

4.) I would switch to manual before you break that auto. The conversion is fairly simple (so I've heard, actually haven't done it myself). There is a write up in the archives at the top of the page and I suggest you read everything in there... It will help you out in the long run a lot.

Catalyic converters are to keep the air coming out of your car clean. It's illegal not to have them. Cops are more strict in diferent states hear in florida they dun giv a ****. so yay for us . catalyc's are horrible for exhaust flow. like a badass filter for your exhaust. cleans it out good but destroys the flow and shuts it up quite a bit. You can buy mufflers to make it quiter with alot more flow. most people do. unless your local cops are jackasses.

On the underdrive pulleys, it is important that you have someone/something hold the clutch pedal down while the pulley swap is being done. The reason being that there is a thrust washer/bearing behind it, and the pulley holds it there normally. So, you must press the clutch pedal which applies pressure to the e-shaft pushing it forward. This keeps the thrust bearing in place by force. If this is not done, the thrust bearing will fall down and then be crushed once the pulley is reinstalled. Then the engine could be destroyed if it is run with that damaged.

Other than that, you will need all new belts as they will all be too long with the underdrive pulley.

Why are you bothering with underdrive pullies? Apart from being unsuitable for street cars (reducing charging and cooling capacities) it sounds like you haven't done any other mods yet. This would be the last engine mod you'd do after everything else, not the first.
