Exclamation unusual aroma found in cockpit while driving!

when i take my car up about 70, while cruzing. i smell almost like a burning oil smell on the inside of the car. is this normal? i am running premix. i also have no emissions, and 3 inches from turbo back.

could this smell be 2 cycle oil burning? smells kinda like burnt, and gives you a head ache, while running the heater.

just wonndering if i should be getting this smell or not.

1 more Q- anyone think this could be a leaky FPD? i have checked on it, i screwed the llil thingy back in to the center of it about 1000 miles ago.

if you didn't want that smell, you should have left emissions and the catconverter intact and functioning.

Pre-mix has a distinct smell, Most likely you have a exhuast leak towards the front of your car....i had the same issue.

Now i fixed the exhuast leak with a header and straight pipe...i only smell it when stopped. I doubt that you would be able to smell it at 70 mph, therefore you might have a exhuast leak close to your shifter...so check your shifter boot.

Check the area around your shifter boot. Same smell? Often, this is caused by transmission oil heating up. If you have a leaking input shaft seal (common), this oil can be thrown up on the clutch/flywheel and will burn off. You can check for this seal by looking at the front drain hole on the transmission, where it meets the engine. Is it dripping? Does it smell like transmission oil?

Its not that its hazardous to your car, its hazardous to you. Be mindful and fix that leak, it wont cost much and your health wont be sacrificed.

If it is your transmission input seal, the FIX IT NOW. The oil will ruin your clutch, and your transmission will run dry. There are procedures in the owner's manual, factory service manual and Haynes manual for checking the tranny oil level.

However, if the smell is intermittant, it's probably just your exhaust.

Aaron, was it you who had a transmission seal break and leak out on the road completely ruining your tranny?

I premix and I don't really smell anything besides a slight "running rich" smell. Which... is probably caused by me running rich .

This smell that has been mentioned here is the same smell I had before installing a new transmission. The input shaft seal was leaking and burning off transmission onto my Clutch/flywheel. Godawful smell too.
