undriveable when cold

This sucks. When I start my car up I need to tap the gas off and on to get it to stay then I need to let it warm up a little to actually be able to move it. I can't get any throttle response when cold. If I push on the gas it just dies. Any ideas? My timing is perfect, TPS isn't reading off idle though. car is 87 t2. new plugs, 02 sensor, and running 15w50

My first guess would be the thermosensor on the back of the water pump. If it fails, the ECU defaults to a 176degF setting, which would result in a cold engine running very poorly until it warmed up. Visually inspect it to make sure it's connected properly, and if it is, either remove it and test it as per the FSM or check it's voltage at the ECU.

What does the *tps not reading off idle mean*?. Just curious. I'm not following that.

Is the Water Thermo Wax, Fast Idle cam etc operable on the throttle body? See the Fuel section of the free online fsm for pictures.
