Typical Life of.....

An FC? My car has about 185k on it and Im about to rebuild it. I am a little concerned because I have heard that these 13B motors only have about a 30k life on them. I really dont want to spend $3000 on it just to have to rebuild it again two years from now.

So I guess the real question is how reliable are these motors and such if built solid and properly? How will a turbo motor hold up against an N/A motor? I am planning on rebuilding an N/A only to beuild and swap in a turbo motor later. But Im not going to stay rotary if they are as tempermental as I am thinking. So can someone give me insight into the cost of having a rotary powered car. The maintenance and upkeep. And how is it the same if the motor is built back to brand new.

My car has been running fine for over 7 years on a rebuild. Haven't put but about 15k maybe on it since then but about 70% of that has been wide open. Maintenance has been oil and gas.

well, think about what you just said.... your FC currently has 185k on it and you are just now getting a re-build. That says something about a 30k lifespan!! If you give the car the love and respect it needs, change the oil, change the plugs, you know the standard upkeep of any engine you should be fine. The only problem is that you own an almost 20 year old car! So, of course there will be the unexpected "oh crap, I need a new alternator" and such. Personally, my TII is like my girlfriend; I give her money, ride her around, and once a month the bitch has PMS and won't give me any...

Well, I know that the motor hadnt been touched in 185K, but with that many miles on it, if I build it back to original factory specs or even upgrade it some, will I be able to pull another 185K on it? I mean I maintain my cars engines like I wash my nuts, I was just wasnting some reassurance that the motor will not crap out on me just because its a rotary thats tempermental. I just dont want to sink the money in it that I am going to, if it might need to be rebuilt again soon.

I wouldn't say they're tempermental. They just require you do things correctly.

Well if everything is built properly and kept up, and not hot rodded like it was a Ferrari. lol. How long do you think th motor will last?

I mean I do plan on updating the whole drivetrain to being better then it was when it came off the assembly line. So Im just hoping it will last.

well the more new parts you put in the rebuild, the longer it will last provided you don't overheat it etc. if you use used rotor housings for example it's not going to last as long as putting new ones in, but of course new housings aren't cheap.

If you never get on it, then you will run into problems, just the same as if you get on it constantly. They like it rough once in a while
