turning a n/a rx7 into a turbo II

i might pick up a 1990 rx7 n/a it has a blown engine and i want to put a turbo II engine in but i also want the car to look like a Turbo II what will i need besides engine and hood and rear view mirrors and also is the transmissions diferent from the n/a to the turbo II and are the rear ends differnt and the brakes. Will i have to get all of that from a turbo II to make them the same. Couls someone just list everything that is different between the two. One more thing can you just bolt a turbo and a maniold up to a n/a eninge i know you need the computer but will it not fit and what is the differnce between the two engines besides the turbo.

thanks for your time

before you get slaughtered..

There are many threads which talk about conversions. in the upper hand corner there is a 'search' function, just search for n/a to turbo or the like.

well to answer a little bit as starters..
turbo engine has 4 ports
n/a engine is 6 port.

you'll need a new hood if your going to be running the stock tII intercooler. transmission, driveline..and basically everything behind the tranny needs to be replaced cuz the tranny is longer.

since tranny is diff, need a new flywheel and clutch to fit engine...
need a new ecu..
need different mounts (although same mounts can be used).

if your wondering, the reason why the intercooler is on the top of the engine because if it were placed in front, the weight distrabution would be thrown off a little. (if im wrong please feel free to bash me)

Also the tranny and all of the drivetrain is stronger and has different attaching pieces so you can't fit turbo II and N/A drivetrain pieces together ;-)
and the N/A tranny isn't made for much hp (I guess above like 200hp if your lucky)

The other option if you get it is to have the motor rebuilt with a street port, and be at a little more than stock HP of a T2. If you modify from there, you could probably get to about 250 at the wheels, whereas a T2 motor would have a lot more potential, but it would also take a lot more to make it work in that car.

I happen to have a street ported NA and it doesn't even compare to a T2. Yeah, I may have as much as T2 in the horsepower dept, but that's at 8000ish rpm. where's my torque, oh yeah I have none. The 89 T2's have roughly 200Ft/Lb of tq starting down low.

I've stop light drag raced an 87 T2 and it was close, ultimately I lost.

250 RWHP in a street port 13B? hahahaha. Time to wake up. That's bridge port territory.

One fellow who's name is KABOOSKI has done it . He has written a detailed post on what he did. If you go to the SEARCH engine on this site, and type in KABOOSKI, you can do a search of his posts. I think you'll recognize the right one just by reading the titles.

That was a rough estimate...250 at the wheels. I have no experience with a street ported motor, but I was thinking that might be possible with lots of mods in addition to the street port. So you think turbo is the way to go? I need to make a decision on what do with my car. Street port, or T2 conversion?
