Question Turning headlight washer into water injection ?

Hey just an idea: since Higgi seems anxious to get a Water Injection kit, I was wondering if I can turn the headlight washer system into a IC waterinjection cooling system.

Nothing fancy, just taking the two nozzles and routing them over the intercooler, so the system will spray water on the surface of the IC whenever you press the button of the headlight washer. It should be good for some cooling effect...

Anyone tried this/has any ideas/think its waste of time ?

It wouldn't really do a thing. The idea of cooling an IC with a spray is that the heat on the surface of the core vapourises the water sprayed at it; this absorbs heat and cools ther core. But to make it work you must maximise the surface area of the sprayed water, and this means spraying it in a fine mist, not a solid jet. Even those cheap garden irrigation nozzles do very little, because they spray small droplets, not a fine mist. The idea's a good one, but you need decent nozzles. The brass ones used for larger scale irrigation are much better, and they don't even cost much. Here's a series of articles on a water spray system, the second part covers spray hardware.

I know the water is supposed to be sprayed in a fine mist (have seen similar setups on Imprezas STi), but this is to maximize the cooling effect (and not waste any water). A nice and small enough nozzle should be more than adequate to provide at least half the cooling effect of a "proper" system...

...going to check for prices on aftermarket water injections sets, and see if this is worth the effort...

It's not high tech, but water carries way mor heat than air. I remember seeing sprayers on old cars with aftermarket A/C. I even put a sprayer on my house A/C condenser just to keep it going till I could afford a new unit. It worked quite well..

P.S Don't let the excess water get under your tires & don't get caught leaking anything on a drag strip.
