turn signals wont blink they just stay on

my turn signals on my 2nd gen wont blink...i dont hear clicking...they just switch on and stay on until i turn them off.

what wires should i trace from the cpu to the lights to check and see if those are the culprits?

before anyone says "dont touch the wiring its the cpu" it definately is not. i have 3 perfectly fine working cpus and have tested them. a shop screwed my wiring up and it really has ticked me off...

so if anyone can give me a quick idea of which wires go from the cpu to the lights that i believe should give me the answer to the question of why are they not blinking.

thanks all!

Sounds more like the Blinker in the CPU is bad. Instead of the turn signals, try the Hazard button and see if they all blink on/off and if you can hear the clicking or not.

gosh i hate shops that dont know what they're doing sometimes...

looked at the car's wiring...the g/w going to the cpu has been spliced with the green and yellow wire

and the green and black has the green and red spliced in...

i think this could be the reason possibly the signals are getting mixed up. does this sound viable?

the in and out to the cpu are spliced so that the signal isnt completing?

in writing this out i think i may have found a culprit of the problem...

the signal going in to the cpu may not be actually making it to the cpu because it may be being redirected straight to the lights...thats why i think the lights are simply comming on but not flashing at all.

someone tell me if that makes sense.

hailers if you got an idea please lemme know. thanks bro!

Yeah. He just bypassed the CPU and blinker. I attached the jpg of the stock wiring and my alteration to show what you described.

I suppose he just moved the lever up/down to simulate the blinking if he saw a cop or????

I'd undo the splicing and put back to stock. Probably still won't work. Listen for the clicking of the blinker after you unsplice the outfit and we can figure it out from there.

alright so for starters today...my partner and i saw that yes indeed. the splicing that i thought was so was indeed done.

the green and yellow was spliced into the green and white

and the green and red was spliced into the the green and black

so what i need to know hailers if you got some info on this is:

the g/y and g/r come from the turn signal switch...go into the body harness then split off and go into the cpu.

and the g/b and g/w go back into the body harness and then go to the front and back??? im dealing with like 4 splices so im trying to figure out which wires are supposed to connect where...its a giant cluster f**k.

The wiring for the turn switch is in the CR1 harness. The CR1 short harness connects to the Front harness. The wires (GR and GY) run from there to the CPU in the Front harness.

They leave the CPU as GB and GW wires, into the FRONT harness for the lights up front and also tie into the FR-02 (means connecting the FRONT to the REAR harness) to the lights in the Rear harness.

When you said someone spliced the wires, I ASSUMED they were spliced at the CPU plug and figured all you'd have to do is unsplice them there and return to the original configuration.

The SECOND jpg I attached earlier (post #6) is the stock wiring. The first jpg I attached (post #6) is a dwg where I erased the original routing and tried to show with the colored lines, how the splicing of the wires you mentioned would bypass the CPU completley and result in the lights coming on when you selected right or left. Can't blink without the blinker inside the CPU.

Make sense? If not, write back.

In the attached jpg the FRONT harness is anything colored in RED. The ENGINE harness is anything colored BLUE. The EM harness is colored black/white (they shoulda used yellow or some real color for the EM). The REAR harness is not shown. I've no readily available jpg of it's color.

Check all of your bulbs. I know on some cars if a turn signal bulb is out they will just stay on instead of switching on and off, same goes for hazards. Might not be the case, but I would check that before diving into miles of wiring

What is it that you do not understand , happens, if you splice those wires he mentioned in his post? Answer: The CPU is bypassed and the lights cannot blink no matter how much you wish it may, wish it might. Can't happen.

Well actually they can blink. Just move the lever up.....then to the middle positon.....then up and back to the middle positon and likewise for the left signals to flash.

I should be using the word FLASHER instead of BLINKER. Sorry'bout that.

Alright chill man...I just read the first post (no mention of splicing) and skimmed through the rest. Didn't mean to offend you...

Meant to also say there are TWO fuses that make the flasher work. The HAZARD fuse and the TURN fuse in the interior.

But if the input and the output wires are spliced together, the lights ain't a gonna blink 'cause their on all the time the lever is pushed up or down. ...depending.

I'll chill out now.

Actually if they/he/them spliced the input and output wires for a given side but stilll had the wires going into the CPU..............the lights would still be on all the time the lever was pulled this way or that way.....but I wonder if the flasher should still be coming and going. Like click, click etc. Maybe I need to jumper mine and find out....someday when I have less than nothing to do.

HAHAHAHAHA! SUCCESS!!!! my buddy and i figured somewhat out what was going on and fixed it. yes the wires were spliced most retardedly....i hate R RATED anyone in the so. cal area NEVER EVER EVER GO THERE!!!!

after some careful resplicing and figuring out that the ground was screwed up as well we figured out how to get the lights and hazards to work...

i only really have one last question for ya hailers...

where is the stock ground location for the ground that goes from the cpu plug to the ground itself? (the black wire).

thanks for the help bro!

I just realized you have a series five. The ground is ground #1 as shown on the dwg. The ground points are shown on the GROUND page of the wiring diagrams. I attached the diagrams.

I have no series five so don't know for sure where JC-01 is located. IT SEEMS to be in the interior and maybe behind the instrument cluster??? Or??? maybe lower inside the car.

On a series four it's in the engine compartment the last time I looked. Under the trail coil area on the series four if memory serves.

Well on a series four the gnd for the turn signals is in something called JC-02 and I've never visited that item. It will look similar to JC-01 under the Trail Coil assy.

I suggest you visti JC-01 under the Trail coil assy. It's bolted to the rear of the front strut tower. It consists of a pure metal bracket with prongs on it. Like maybe six prongs. An electrical plug with black wires plugs onto the prongs.

JC-02 probably looks just like that............but as to its exact location ??? Got me. Stare at the attached jpgs of of the free online wiring diagrams and the location is questionable. Somewhere around the instrument cluster?? Got me. I'm not into harming my self trying to find it.

See attached jpgs for the location of JC-02

Series four car. With a series five engine and series five harness on the engine (EM harness)? So you had to rearrange the wires in the series five EM harness to match the stock series four Front harness? Sorry, I forget about three quarters of what I read on this forum.

You'd have to repin the plugs after comparing the series five to the series four pinouts. I thought Icemark had a thread on this somewhere. In the archives????
