if you smell gas, or have a gas leak do not start or run the car... chances are your Pulsation Dampener has failed or a fuel line has failed and you will be dumping fuel onto your exhaust manifold priming the car to be a nice Car-B-Que.

Fix before starting or running

If you tried for too long to start it without success, you probably just flooded it and thats why it starts after a while. But I'd check out the fpd for sure... that is if it is in fact gas your leaking... you should specify a little more next time...

You aren't being descriptive enough... I see your post count is "3" so I take it you're new around here... simply saying "weird sounds under the hood, I think something is leaking, etc." isn't going to cut it. You have to describe what's going on in great detail... what, when, where, why... and use all 5 senses : )

Anyways, from what you've described, it sounds like your car is flooded. Meaning: you have poor engine compression, or you may have some bad injectors. What you need to do is search for the following terms to see if you can resolve your problem.

1) flooding, flooded, won't start, etc. ad nauseum
2) fuel pulsation dampener, fpd, fuel leak, etc.

I think you'll find a compression test and cleaning your injectors professionally will help a great bit. Also, if you think your pulsation dampener is leaking, don't drive your car. Replace or have it replaced asap. You should understand why after searching. Welcome to the forum... it's a great source of information when used properly. Good luck.

Josh

my suggestion is find a good mechanic local to you, if you can't tell if something is leaking on the engine or if there is a gas smell in the bay you shouldn't be tearing the car apart.
