TurboII

Hey all, Brand new to the site and possibly the RX-7 club. I found a 10th Anniversary edition Turbo II for what I think is a decent deal... I am asking your opinions... Heres the deal. 88TurboII, Needs brakes, Soon to need tires, Needs shifter bushing - Dunno if it's tranny mount od shifter. The shifter has insane amount of play in it. Body has a little hidden damage acros the passenger side. A hard look reveals lotsa rippling down the side. Interior is all most perfect black leather. Has moonroof, aftermarket pillar mounted bosst guage, BOV, External wastegate, Upgraded manifold. Runs well, No smoking or stalling. Kinda hard idle while cold - Normal?? Has 8.5 compression 13b. Claims around 20k on a rebuild. What should I be willing to pay? Overall not a bad car. Has a custom rigged straight pipe exh with a side exit. No cat. How hard to pass emissions if I put a cat on?

the bushings are nothing to worry about, thats what my shifter is like, but i have another tranny to drop in so i'm going to wait, the body damange.. eh I'd just double check and make sure theres no other hidden damage, so it hit 8.5 across all faces on the compression test? Thats not bad at all, also it depends on how many miles he has on the trans and the body, is he on the stock turbo? I'd give him 3k.. if the milage isn't too bad, also your description of the body damange is kinda vague. Have any pics?

Well a decent shape Turbo II will go for between 3k and 7k depending on the seller and what the circumstances are. But for that I would guess about 6 grand if it is anythign like you say.

Pay no more than 3-4k, unless it is absolutely rust free and boosts like new.

The body has 120k on it. I couldnt pay attention to the boost guage in the a-pillar cuz I was watching the road but I know it lagged really bad up till about 5k then pulled nicely. I have no pics at the moment but, damage is not bad it's kinda covered by the paint. It looks like the car had a side swipe or something and shitty bodywork was done. It is the stock turbo from what I was told. Anybody know how much those bushings are and where I could get them if I do pick this car up? He says he'll take no less than 3k for it, Which by the looks of it seems to be a decent deal. Are there an common problems this car has?

Prepare to eat more oil than you eat gas, and to have constant leaks.

It's worth it.
