Recently I've been noticing my turbocharger spooling has become very loud under boost..

Not the actual whirr of the compressor but some kind of *whirrrrr* noise that sounds like something is definitly not working..

Any ideas of what I should check?

check for broken hot side intake leaks

 

broken hot side intake leaks? I thought that hot side was exhaust, and that intake was... well not cold... but not the hot side.

And I just installed this engine with a very knowledgable rotary mechanic, and we both were amazed that the turbo's shaft was virtually non-existant. It didn't spin effortlessly, but it didn't move side to side or up and down at all.

and it did spin freely, just with a small amout of friction.
