turbo questions and advice plz

I just bought a 1990 RX-7 convertible (N/A 13b) and, I was wondering what parts I would need to renforce in the engein so that when i get enough money to turbo charge it, i wont blow the engein up. I know I need the turbo II hood but I was wondering if anyone had like a list of parts that need to be replaced and a good site to order them off of wouldnt hurt eather.

Secondly I really dont like the fact that the one I bought is a convertible, I really wanted a hatchback but I was forced to settle for the convertible. what do you guys think about tearing the engein/tranny out and putting it in a hatchback Good/bad idea? too difficult and timeconsumeing? lemmy know what some of you think and thanks for the info in advance!

converting from a vert wouldn't be worth the time or money. just cheaper and easier to buy a hatchback instead. personaly i think that turbo verts are sexy.

what kind of power would you like to get out of this motor. that would be a good start.

there isnt really a kit to go from na-turbo. honestly it would be a lot easier to find a donor car to swap everything over. it would be cheaper too. there are many write ups on this.

no, but there is a laundry list (if you will) of parts needed for the swap... like the t2 hood

I think the turbo air/water separator is the most important thing. You don't want that water going in to your NA that has turbo potential!

umm, I can't tell if you are all seriously retarded or bad at sarcasm.

it's not cost efficient for you to put your vert stuff into another NA because the ENGINE and tranny are the same.

The hood should be the LAST of your concerns.

1. you'll need a turbo MOTOR

2. all the sensors

3. starter

4. transmission, flywheel, clutch, driveshaft, differential, and halfshalfts (optional
because you can use the NA parts)

5. you'll need the ECU

6. you'll also need a boost gauge
The convertible is one of the coolest FC's because it is PURPOSELY MADE as a
VERT (unlike the coupes with the tops chopped of and bodyflex like no other.) and because of this is is 1% less rigid than the coupe (with the top up).

7. The vert was sent here as an NA ONLY while the rest of the world got a Turbo version. If you want to own a pretty cool FC then I suggest you save and swap a TII motor and drivetrain into your FC vert. If you really hate it then sell it and quit complaining.

somebody sounds rigid...

that is some cool insight to the vert, and there is a guy that is doing a pretty sick turbo vert right now.

rigid is better than flacid.

That's a bit too much for me. the 13B-REW is a cool motor but it doesn't seem like the most cost-effective way to turbo a vert. He gets mad Kudos from me because he DID do the swap though. You can go 13BT or 13B-RE and have an easier time installing it and it's more than enough to make 300-350hp or even 400HP.

but what about bolt-ons? nobody ever seems to want to answer this question, you guys always just punk out and say buy a TII motor, like everyone can just afford a new motor like its nothing. can you do a bolt-on to an n/a?

i know the fuel system can handle it but what about the rotors or the trans? how much boost can an n/a handle before it becomes dangerous for it?

oh and for those who say it will be to expensive to do a bolt on, i can get the parts for bolt ons for almost free and i mean everything, but the people i know cant get whole engines.

then do it man. Why do you ask us if you already know what you want to do? save our time and bandwidth and just do whatever you want to do. Do a little more research before you post next.

I did the n/a turbo like some others have. Like everyone says its better to just get the tii motor because nobody just gets through all that to leave it that way. It will branch out and why not just skip that and get the tii motor.
