Turbo Questions

I finally bought my Turbo II yesterday and I have a couple questions:

Firstly it needs a new BOV which I have, when removing the stock one out of its rubber hose the hose had oil in it. Is this normal or even slightly explainable or very bad??

Secondly the tranny grinds, when I engage the clutch only. Basically about 1/3 of the time I take off and occasionally when I let the clutch out and I have just shifted into second there is a grinding noise. I thought about a bad throw out bearing but not sure that is it. Someone suggested that it might just be clucth chattering since it is an act Six Puck but it really does not sound like that.

Car is an 88 with many mods, it does have a hybrid turbo on it, not that that would really make any difference anyway.

Is it a grind or a chatter?

I think that would indicate a turbo blowing oil. I can't think of where else the oil would come from there.

They're notorious for having synchro issues. Missed shifts is usually the cause. Red Line MTL did wonders for mine. Before, all shifts to 2nd would grind, now only the most aggressive of shifts will get me grindage. I was pretty impressed. It's so damn thin, but that's technology in synthetics I guess.

Yes, sounds like a turbo is experiencing bad seals or blowby. Good time to upgrade to a T51 KAI BB!!

well the thing is that shifting doesn't cause grindage, only letting the clutch out does. also usually not on the fly bout only from a stop or at low speeds.

the turbo is a t3/t4 hybrid which was supposedly only very recently put in the car.

Whoever did the hybrid may have done a shitty job. Or the oil could be residue from the old turbo.

it would seem it is residue from the old one as it isn't very much and not fresh seeming.

Assuming that you cleaned off the oil when you put the BOV on, why don't you take the BOV off in a couple of days, and see if there is any oil buildup. Might give you an idea if there is a problem or not.

Just clean out the pipe. Then run the car for a while. In a day or two take the pipe off and look at it. It will tell you if thats the new or old turbo.
