turbo question

i just drove 7 hours one way to kentucky to look at a turbo II and the guy didn't tell me that the turbos made a screaching sound at 75% boost. is this normal? i don't have a turbo so i didn't know but it sounded like the turbos were going out. were they? and the steering was extremly hard to turn. is this normal for an fc? i have an FB and it isn't that hard to turn. what i am saying i guess is the car was solid. just those major problems and the car cost 2200. bad deal or should i go back for it?

thanks
byron

the hard turning sound like it doesnt have power steering. and if the turbos were making a screachign sound it could have been the compressor wheel hiting the housing. or maybe your not used to how a turbo sounds when it spools.

but what was the rest of the condition of the car? if it doesnt have that many miles and the motor still has compression that doesnt soudn to bad.

92 k on car and motor. i could hear the turbo spool then cut out with the noise. the rest of the car was in ok shape. needs paint bad, left side of the rear end leaked a little fluid. probibly a seal. otherwise it was pretty good. oh yea the dash lights went out sometimes. the drivers side door handle fell off and the power window doesn't work. otherwise it has a strong engine and an ok trans. thanks for all of the help.

I'd say stay away from it probably.

Screaching turbo? Like the sound of scraping or what? I know my hybrid turbo whines pretty intense when in high rpm and high boost, but would not call it a screech.

Yeah if interior parts are falling off and the steering feels all shitty like that then I'd say don't bother.
