Turbo oil return line leaking

So I had to pull my manifold and turbo out so I could put all new exhaust gaskets in, and when I put it all back together I cranked the car up and went to check for leaks.

As it would turn out, the oil return line was leaking a large amount of oil out. I can't tell exactly where it's leaking from because I shut the car off as soon as I saw that it was leaking.

I'm fairly sure that it isn't leaking from the fitting, but I'm going to try to put some teflon tape on the threads and retry it later. If that doesn't work then is there any possible way to fix the leak without buying new oil lines? Or does anyone know where I can get a replacement line to go from the block to the line that goes to the turbo?

Thanks in advance.

You can always go with SS line and -4an fittings.

Now, if I remeber right. There would be 3 possible areas it could leak from.

1. the block
2. the connection by the water pump.
3. on the turbo.

Find out where. Lots of people have used parts here and con supply you with one.

It's not leaking from any of the places you listed. I'll get a picture of where I believe that it's leaking later.

I was thinking of going with the SS lines. Would I be able to get a flange that will match up to the stock turbo, and the block?

Thanks for the help.

If you have threads to put teflon tape onto I don't think it's a stock return line. The stock return line is 2 gaskets and an o-ring. 1 gasket at the turbo, 1 gasket at the little adapter pipe to the engine, and an o-ring at the engine. I would try to narrow it down or just get all 3 pieces and replace them all at once.

Ok, I got a picture of where I saw the oil coming out from. You'll have to excuse how dirty the engine bay is, I'm going to clean it soon.

Could it possibly be leaking at the connector? Otherwise, the only thing that I could think of is that the line is cracked or has a hole somewhere in it.

That is exactly where I was talking about. That is you FEED line. I ditched mine for SS lines.

Here are some pics.

That's beautiful Wankler. I like your fuel line split set up. I'm thinking of doing that same thing to mine in the near future.

To the OP, that is a perfect example of an oil feed line.

Can the same be done with the stock turbo oil drain? I heard something about S4 turbos not having the clearance to fit an aftermarket flange on the drain section?

You can make a braided stainless drain line if you want. There are aftermarket T4 style AN drain flanges from places like ATP turbo. The clearance is very tight but it can be done if you are creative and use low profile fittings.

Ok, thanks Aaron, that's what I wanted to hear. http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=FLA
So I would need two of these style flanges? One for the turbo itself, and another to bolt to the front cover?

Also, it's a compression type fitting, so you need to crank is down pretty tight.
If it still leaks after tightening, then the compression mating surfaces could be damaged.

The stock solid steel oil supply line is at least the equal of SS line and AN fittings. I'd say it's actually better, and it's free.

Separate it, clean it, tighten it up. Bet it doesn't leak.
