Question To turbo or not to turbo.......that is the question.

I have an 88 NA convertible and I REALLY need more power. I have thought about adding a turbo and have some of the components but lately think it is too much trouble. How much power can I add from adding a VDI intake and a header with no cats. I am not sure if it worth the power to do those or if I have to do the turbo to have a car that can get out of it's own way. I don't want a race car but something that holds it's own at least. Any suggestions???

well some times cats are beter to have especialy on n/a's and also verts are the slowest rx-7s because of the weight and such

Unless you want to invest some serious time and money into your car, I think you are better off just enjoying your convertible as-is. The VDI won't add any meaningful performance, and many racers don't even like the VDI. A header and no cats will help the performance, but will also increase the noise level, which takes away from the ambiance of the convertible.

If your convertible really can't get out of its own way, then you may want to check the engine compression as it may be time for a rebuild.

Yeah umm those verts are the heaviest FC's and there known for being the slowest. Verts are really beautiful and all but unless you turbo it or drop in a turbo engine then your really not going to be going any faster any time soon. I mean ive seen countless of ppl in here trying to make verts faster with engine mods and such and there really has been no solution to making them a lot faster. The most affordable and quick way is going with nitrous and the other performance mods. However you would be getting so much more power going with a turbo engine like a JDM or such, then do the conversion. Personaly id drop a turbo in that vert, youll be a lot faster not to mention, a lot happier

Sell it and get a T2. You'd have money left over for mods because the resale on verts is so high.

.....But the only FC I would want to own right now is a vert. otherwise I would probably save a little and just get a money pit FD. Which is what I will probably do in a couple of years....either that or a M3.
