TURBO NOOB! What does a wastegate do?
What is the purpose of the wastegate? Of what I see in my stock turbo (which I just got last week, going for a TII swap) it seems like its used to block half the intake of the turbo when there is to much boost....or am I wrong? How does it activate/open/close?
Also, on the stock turbo, its internal right?
And why do we have to have different wastegates for different amounts of power?
On the same note, I bought a Type-RS Greddy BOV. So I just remove the stock BOV, plug the whole and weld in my new BOV on the cold side of the intercooler piping?
Thanks for educating me

It searches the forum....
Question:
1) To relieve exhaust pressure from accelerating the turbine (limits boost)
2)It ACTUATES when a vaccum/boost is applied to it.
3)Plug the holes and attach it (whether it be welding, or whatever) close to the throttle body

Wastegates are used for, well wasting excess boost. This is why you can get the so called boost creep if your wastegate is too small, an incontrolable excess of boost (very bad). Stronger engines produces boost more easily and therefore need a bigger wastegate to keep control of thing.
