Turbo Kit for a non-turbo (NA)
I have been looking all over the internet and local shops and I can not find a turbo kit for a 1986 NA RX-7!! Would anyone happen to know where I could find one and if not are the turbo kits for the 1987 NA able to be put on a 1986. Also what are the differences between the 1986 and 1987 models? If there is no possiblilty for those two options, what other ways can I go about haveing a turbo put into my car? Any suggestions would be great!!

I have checked with Mazdaracing.com and Rotaryshack.com on taking my '88 and turboing. Seems Like the easiest thing to do is get a j-spec TII motor and go to a blow-through carb setup. You can keep your drivetrain and just counterweight the engine for the N/A flywheel. This also eliminates the need for costly Fuel management computers, injectors, and such. These setups are capable of producing reasonable (ehem) amounts of power, but I think you can get a bit more from a FI setup. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

There are no "kits" to make your NA have a turbo. Aaron Cake on here did his own custom. Back in the day, I believe Don Marvel had a kit but not anymore. Full swap or sell the car and get a TII are the usual ways to go.

Not true. There is a turbo kit available, though I cannot vouche for the quality. I have no first hand experience with the vendor, nor the kit.

That kit has been around for some time - from what I understand, it's pretty homebrew. I don't even know if the company is actively making them any more.

far out, i'd forgotten about that page until right now Aaron..
I need to put some better photos up there, looks way too dodgy in those pics hehe...
I've got a bit of an update on it aswell which is a bit of a coincidence this came up, my FC now has a microtech in it and running really quite well and possibly a new high flowed turbo in the next few weeks since my old one spat the dummy big time.

I see a TII for sale in my state a couple times a year. Very rare. Probably 1 T2 for Every 5-10 FD's for sale at a given time. There were only 14,000 FD's sold in the US. Very few TII's left.

If you're going to get emotionally attached to a certain vehicle, you better have a big wallet or be prepared for the "pain&suffering" for owning such a vehicle. Most of the general population doesn't have this attitude, so buying another vehicle is rather painless.
Remember, the idiot who doesn't see you or the drunk driver that might hit you is not going to be able to replace your vehicle in an accident.

a friend of mine builds custom turbos for anything under the sun, and is very cheap, give me an email if your interested in a price for your rx7, i can guarantee it will be $1800 or less, parts and labor with an intercooler

Incase nobody noticed, the "news" section of that n/a turbo website has not had an update in over a year. I would assume this means they likely do not make their "kit" anymore. You could throw something like that of your own together for a lot cheaper anyway, and if you don't know how, you should not be installing your own turbo kit. They are not simply plug and play, especially when not specifically manufactured for a car.
