Turbo Kit

I was looking at the greddy Turbo Kit. Looks to me like it has a stainless tubuler manifold with everything needed.

I've heard from people that buying the parts seperatly you can get it cheaper and better.

Is this true. Looks like it includes everything for about the same as buying seperately?

Whats the specs of the turbo and max HP? Does it come with a three inch downpipe??

HKS Sport Turbo Upgrades are bolt-on turbo upgrade kits for factory turbo-charged vehicles. These kits consist of new, larger turbos designed to bolt directly on to the stock manifold(s). HKS Sport Turbos are designed and sized to promote good mid range response and provide maximum airflow throughout the RPM band. From the HKS precision cast turbine and compressor housings to the specially designed blades, each turbo is crafted to provide high levels of performance and quality.

That turbo is also too small.&nbsp It's a pretty small turbo (I think it's a T04E 46) that can "only" make about 300hp before losing steam.&nbsp It's a lot of money for very little power upgrade.

The HKS Sport Turbo upgrade is neat in one aspect - you can keep the air pump and pass emissions with it. It also uses an internal wastegate, and does have boost control issues. Not to mention GOOD LUCK trying to get one new - a buddy of mine got one, and waited for a LONG time for one - HKS USA just doesn't stock 'em.

The Greddy turbo kit is actually a good bang for the buck - you can get it for $2000ish new, ready to go. It uses a small adapter to go from the turbo to your downpipe, making that part of the equation a little easier.

Building your own turbo kit is another idea. Here's a breakdown -

HKS cast manifold - $300
TO4 series turbo - $800
Water/oil lines - $100ish
External wastegate - $250
Custom downpipe - ???

So, you're easily looking at $1500 right there. The biggest problem is the downpipe - NO ONE makes a bolt-on downpipe for a larger turbo. Considering most of us don't have welding skills, this presents a big problem. Most shops won't even do the work to the car since you end up eliminating catalytic converters (the precat).

Any way you slice it, a big turbo ain't cheap.

BTW, none of the above pictures are of FC kits - the Greddy pic is of the FD turbo setup, and the other pic is for a Honda or some crap .

Thanks for the response.

I will probable buy and piece. Its just turbonetics or any other shop does not sell the lines to hook them up.

I'm going to get a divided Turbo housing .96A/R Exhaust and I think 60-1intake?

POLISHED "LMAO"
Super TO4E compressor wheel
Pro comp turbo wheel. 10blade VS 11 Blade unless this is just for stock upgrades?

I wanted to go with tubular manifold because it is said to offer 20 to 40 more HP just from flow patterns....... but its double to triple the cost.

Thanks for the info guys!

* Turbo balancing is available and is done within .005 grams
* Balancing is available and is included in competition prepping
* Spindle/wheel lightening is available and yields up to 600 R.P.M. drop in spool up time and up to two lbs. of extra boost at maximum turbo charge output

Or maybe from majestic turbo.

WELDING IS NOT DIFFICULT!!! I hate when magazines (like Super Street!) make a big deal of it. It just takes a little practice to get a feel for it. The hardest thing is finding the balance between wire speed and heat for the thickness of metal your welding. Just find some metal like that which your going to weld to and practice welding to it until you get it right. Borrow a book from the library on it to get an idea of what looks right. You can buy one of those cheap stick welders at a flea market or yard sale for under $100 and a flip down mask is like $30 at Home Depot. That will get the job...won't be pretty but it will hold and thats what counts. Sorry for the long rant...I just get pissed when people are afraid to try doing something themselves so go pool a few bucks with a friend or two and get a welder and try it out. At least then you can say you tried....
