Turbo Issues
Can anyone give me advice on correcting the following problem with my 1988 RX-7 Turbo? (No enhancements, stock...)
When I accelerate hard, the Turbo pops a few times. It is like a mini backfire. It doesn’t matter if the engine is hot or cold. I can drive the car for hours, and when I step on the gas hard, pop, pop, pop. It isn’t loud; passengers in the car don’t hear it unless I point it out to them. It does cause a performance issue as I can feel a very slight jerk whenever I hear the pop.
Although I am not certain, it seems to have started when I had the engine overhauled. It is clearly in the turbo, and as I say, temperature of the engine doesn’t matter.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Make sure timing correct, then put super premium gas and add octane booster and see if that changes anything. I had a similar problem. Everthing checked out ok. Used super and tried an octane booster and had the same problem with full throttle, esp in 3rd & 4th, but not 1st or 2nd. Ended up being either a cracked or sticking seal. Didn't indicate any problem when numerous comprssion tests were performed.
