turbo charger gaskets?

ive had a hard time understanding what gaskets i need when removing/installing a stock s4 turbo. the one thats really eluded me is at the downpipe/wastegate area.

the downpipe gasket is a circular style with 3 bolt holes. ok, got it. but every picture i see, the hot side of the turbo is an odd shape that looks like south america as a land mass.

Ive stolen a picture from aaroncake for reference. thanks for allowing the theft

the question is, there seems to be a plate between the turbocharger and the actual downpipe as seen in the pic. Is there a gasket between that plate and the turbo housing or is it just smashed against one another?

can you use gasket maker or do you have to cut one from an actual sheet of metal like aluminum or copper?

Exhaust System Repair : Permatex® Muffler & Tailpipe Sealer

Very odd..
They could have made one and charged another 300 bucks to get it at the dealership!

of most the turbos i've encountered, a wastegate housing won't use a gasket

never had an exhaust leak at that area, so i never felt the need to reinvent the wheel.
