Tubro upgrade question. BNR stage II vs TD06SH
Tubro upgrade question. BNR stage II vs TD06SH
Hello,
I currently have a BNR stage II turbo T04 hybrid. However, I have been looking to upgrade the turbo for a little bit more power. I was curious if anyone had experience with both the BNR stage II and the TD06SH 20G? If so was the power difference very noticable? I was wondering what the highest boost you can get out of the TD06SH. just to give you a little back ground on my car
-1988 Mazda RX7 T2 (Anniversary Edition)
-95,000 miles on chassis
-40,000 on Rebuild from East Coast Rotary (Big Streetport, 3mm Apex Seals)
-NEW BNR STAGE 2 T04B HYBRID TURBO w/ 360 Thrust
-Ported S5 manifold
-Aftermarket Intake
-Full 3" stainless Apexi N1 exhuast w/ no cat
-HKS SSQV BOV
-Exedy clutch
-Clutch LSD
-Double ALT pulley
-Racingbeat FCD
-Fuel pump cutoff
-Greddy 720CC Secondaries
-New injector wires
-Walbro 255
Thanks for any info you can provide, Colin.

Full single turbo will outperform the hybrid hands down.
You'll want to look into a standalone though in order to optimize the setup. The stock ECU is just not suited to running the engine with all the mods required for the single turbo. Don't want to risk the engine.
Never ran a hybrid myself, but been in plenty of cars that do. They aren't slow, but they sure as **** aren't all people think they are. Go full T4 single if you're even entertaining the idea - you'll never regret it.

I just ordered the Power FC and the banzai racing adapter. Have a nice FMIC on the way, a new koyo radiator, and two 720cc primaries. I have no idea where to begin on the full T04 setup? what would i need and where could i get it? I did a search and basically didn't find much.
I'm not in the US to do this myself which would make it a lot easier, so either way im going to get stuck having to pay someone to install it. Also to go along with that price isn't that big of a deal ( Wife has said i can spend about 3k on getting a turbo ).
Thanks once again for the input

Hello again,
I have taken to heart what you said classicauto and I'm looking at putting on a GT35R turbo. However, I have a few questions.
what type of wastegate do i need? i was looking at a tial 46mm wastegate
this is the list of stuff im putting together for it.
- Manifold (that fits t4 based flange)
- GT35R T4 based (4 bolt on the exhaust side)
- Oil drain flange
- Oil inlet fitting
- oil drain gasket
- Banjo fitting for coolant
- oil feed line kit
Is there anything im missing out of this list
Thanks, Colin.

Your wastegate will somewhat be determined by the goals for the car, however a Tial 44 or 46 is a great wastegate that covers a wide range of boost levels.
Looks to be a decent start to the list, you'll want to look at fuelling (pump, regulator and injectors) to feed the increased airflow (probably move to 1600 secondaries). Also there will always be small incidental items you'll need along the way such as fittings, plugs, etc. But you've got the main bases covered.

im looking for about 350 to 375 at the wheels. I'm not doing the install myself thats why im trying to get everything before hand, i know most shops gouge on parts. thanks for helping me classicauto
i think you should be able to push 330 with what you have... im 330whp on a stock ported s4 and stage 3 you need some fuel control and ignition control i think your car should be close to pushing 300 right now....

You should look into the A-spec GT3574 kit. Proven performer, pretty damn good price considering what is included in the kit. HP wise it is pretty comperable to the more expensive GT35R-T4, but will spool slightly slower since it is non ball bearing.

Thanks for all the input. On the GT35R what A/R should i get the .63 or .82? what kind of fuel and ignition control should I be looking for? like a fuel pressure regulator or a new pump? Honestly i would rather get a bigger turbo than i need while i still have a nice paying job, in my eyes it allows me to push higher numbers should i ever want to.
Thanks for all the info.

The GT3574 & GT35R-T4 will be able to put you well over your 350-375 goal. These turbos are capable of 450-500rwhp with enough boost and supporting mods.
I'd go with a 1.00 divided hotside. .63 is small for a rotary, you will choke the turbo on the top end.
If money is no object and you want a killer turbo then I suggest looking into the GT500R turbo kit from A-spec. It is a modified GT35R that flows more and continues to perform at higher boost where the 35R will run out of breath. That is what I have on my car.
