tube behind manifold

i ahve a 88 SE and just behind the intake manifld there is a metal tube that runs across towards the drivers side and attaches to the manifold by a clamp and to a rubber hose and some sort of mechanism bolted to the side of the intake on the drivers side......should this be blocked/plugged on the end that comes around by the intake and air pump, ....sorry if unclear

I am not completely sure, but it sounds like you are describing the brake booster hose. This needs to be kept intact. There is a hose that comes off of the intake manifold and runs to a steel pipe that runs across the engine on the firewall and then terminates at the brake booster. If this is the hose and pipe that you are talking about, make sure it is intact and leak free.

Yeah..first thing I thought of was the booster vacuum line also... can you be a bit more specific? Where does the other end go?

Aw shucks. Thats for the air bypass solenoid valve. Aids the bac in the 3000 rpm startup when the engine is cold. If not functional, the rpm's will be on the order of just 23-24oo rpm instead of 3000rpm on startup. Make sure the thing is connected to the bottom of the intake duct and connected at the air bypass solenoid. See the FUEL SECTION of the free factory manual at http://iluvmyrx7.com If not connected at both ends it could result in one hugemongous air leak, making starting the car difficult at best.

hailers:

i have right now a air breather filer in the end that went to the intake arm, i put a stubby piece of tubing on the factory intake elbow and from there attached a cone heatshield type air filter and have a 90 degree elbow coming off that and going through the hood, on the hood i have a small scoop covering the hole, so the air valve to the BAC does connect into the back of the intake manifold, but the end where i put the miny filter should that be plugged or leave the little filter there??

do u see what i am saying
