trunk sorta opening

is it hard for you guys to open your trunk or gas tank?
is there a handle on the truck to lift it? the trunk light on the das doesnt go away after its closed either is it just the shocks ?
when i pull the trunk lever inthe car my trunk opens but i have to use the wiper as a handle to open it up, also to open the gas tank i pull the lever but i have to pull it really hard or a few time, is that just the cable goin bad?

I helped the opening of the fuel door by a healthy dose of WD-40 on its hinges. My hatch lid sticks on the rubber seals and I have to work to get it open. Welcome to 20 year old cars I guess.

i dunno about your gas cover but i have the same problem with my trunk/hatch. i lift the lever and the hatch is unlocked but to open it, i either push the glass up or sorta slam the door to open it further. on my other fc i just pull the lever and it opens automatically. i assume it could be bad shocks but it doesnt bother me.

Well for your gas lid, in my vert I pulled the panels inside the trunk and sprayed the cable to open the gas lid with some WD-40 and hit the hinges like Chuck said. It helps out quite a bit.

where are the cables run for the trunk and gas release? mine dont release at all, I have to pry open the gas cover with a key and open the trunk with the key. feels like the lever inside isnt attached to anything.

there's a latch on the middle left side when you open your gas, try pulling it out a bit if you're having problems with your gas door not opening.

sorta like that, would snap a pic but my flasher sucks. Pull on that ]]]]] metal bar thing a bit, that should allow it to pop out when you press the button. Less I'm remembering wrong

As for trunk I haven't figure it out too much, it sometimes only opens up a bit and sometimes won't close properly without being slammed, one side of the latch is a bit chipped though.

yea like sintri said

but i pushed mine in further
so now i only have to pull the gas level a little and it pops right open

like the tab that sticks out, bend it inwards

sry, but i dont have a pic either...

and an extra tip for some of you guys

** if your hatch doesn't un-latch fully
** like if only the driver side unlatches or something

** theres a plastic toothed thing on the cable in the rear
** pull it out another tooth, and your hatch will unlatch every time

** its on the other side of the rear key hole (inside)
** by the spare tire

hope this helps!

The hatch not opening after its released is due to bad hatch struts.

That's what I figured, Sideways7. Short of replacing the struts, which cost a small fortune, is there any way to make it work and open any better, or do we still have to wedge it ope with a key.

You don't want to know! But Mazdatrix.com has them....over $100 each. Best bet would be to find some that work (good luck) on these forums or maybe on Ebay.

do what i do, unlock the hatch, close both windows and sunroof, and slam the door. the pressure will open the hatch more and you can just lift it with your fingers

I found a working set for 25 bucks at the local junkyard, actually. I was amazed, because its the first time I had ever seen an rx-7 where the hatch opened by itself.

Some pass side struts have a light mounted to them, thats most likely what used to be there.
