True Dual Gain

OK i've got my safc intalled and have a little extra cash. I want to buy one more mod before i go get my car dyno tuned. I was considering getting a header and having true dual run to my rb catback by cutting out the y section. would this be worth the money? or is there something else i should get? I have around 250 to spend and am looking for something that will let them tune a little more power out of my engine

Talk to the guys at Racing Beat... they'll tell you that, unless you are planning to supercharge the engine, or go with a Carb setup, that running headers really isn't worth the extra expense. The downpipe/presilencer is less expesive and the difference between that and a header RB claims is only one horsepower

ok well currently i have 3 inche pipe leading to rb cat back with not cats, so you don't think that a header will help much?

What YearsOfDecay means is that unless you have altered your intake, you won't see the extra gains of a header over the cat replacement pipe and presilencer.

ok well i will have a hard pipe intake with cold air, is that enough intake modifacation along with an safc to see a good gain? or are is this setup better for supercharged rx7s? I've heard many people running this setup would it be good?

kinda find it hard that a big box like manifold that should just ruin exhuast velocity is going to perform just the same as a header

the stock manifold is a pile of junk

header sure seems to make it a bunch louder though

i think most people that installed a header also dumped their cat at the same time, so can't really comment on whether or not the header itself helped much or not.

if I remember right the stock cat will not fit with the RB header
and if you get their downpipe as well the stock cat again will not fit

so you should be able to tell the difference between a downpipe/presilencer vs a header/presilencer

All I know is that I just switch out my cats for their replacement pipe and the difference sure feels great

You are right that with either setup you must change everything in front of the Y-pipe.

My comment on this to you, immortal, is that if RB says "don't get this setup because it's more expensive and doesn't have any extra gain" it seems like they would push it if it actually made more power because it makes more money for them.

EDIT: I don't know whether or not it would help you with the mods you have, I was just stating what I know.

they did tell me the same thing also I admit

but have you seen that hunk called an exhuast manifold
it is like a huge plenum and the design of a plenum is to slow the intake charge down to let it compress a little and gain density

works well for the intake
on the exhuast though velocity is king
who knows though
but I don't see that stock design being nice for power

even more so when mazda claims it was designed to hold the exhuast gas in place to give it more tim to burn
