trouble selecting gears
I have an 88 TII. Recently I've been having a lot of trouble selecting first, second, and sometimes third gear. I talked to an Rx-7 mechanic and he said it was most likely a hydroulic problem and I should replace the clutch master cylinder. Well, I did that, and I'm still finding myself holding up traffic trying to get her into first (I've been doing a lot of flicking off lately at people who honk). Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have suggestions as to what it could be. As a side note, I do not have any problems selecting gears until my car is warmed up; so could it be just a simple adjustment to compensate for clutch expansion? I appreciate any help, thanks.

Your car is fine UNTIL it warms up? That's odd...usually if they're not going to cooperate very well it's when everything is still cold.
I wish I knew of a suggestion to offer, but unfortunately I won't be of much help on this one.

well im no rotory exspert but id have to say the tranny should be looked at, but then again my friends golf is the same way, gadda find the right stop for it and give it some love

How is the clutch fluid level? If it is fine, try loosening the locknuts on the rod connecting the pedal and master cylinder and rotating the rod to move it toward the master. Move it in an 1/8" or so and then see if you have the problem.

Change out the shift lever bushings while you're at it. www.mazdatrix.com offers a nice, complete package for not too much $ (bought it myself this past fall.) And it's something you can do yourself.
And give your mechanic a kick in the naughty bits for suggesting changing the CMC. And noogie yourself for agreeing, too.
Could also be synchro mesh starting to eat itself. Hope not - major surgery. Get the slbushings while you're thinking about it. Just a few buck and might be the needed fix. Why not find out b4 you throw major $ at a big repair, instead of after?
