Question Tricky engine swap

i have a buddy with an 88 non turbo that has blown apex seals and i saved the motor and tranny out of my 85 first gen gslse and was wondering if i just switched out the block if it would mount up and work granted this isn't for upgrade purposes but just so it will run untill he and afford a reman motor
