transmition help. How much, rebuild

My tranz is pretty loud. Seems louder than usual. Especially in third its a little roughf. Makes my car feel shity. ANyways it sounds like shhhhhhh or gzzzzzzzzshhh. Basically just excessive nois. What kind of rebuild does this sound like. Also can I switch to an aluminum bell housing. Mabey I can just change the fluid. Would that quiet it down.

Check your transmission oil. It may have sprung a leak somewhere and fried because it doesn't have enough oil. The first one in my first RX-7 did this to me.

If it is this, you can find a used one or get a rebuild from Mazda Recycling for something around the area of $800. If you ran it on little or no oil the internals are toast and the one you have is junk.

Hopefully it isn't that. Check the fluid and let us know what it does.

Might be the bearings. Try putting it in neutral and let the clutch out. Is the noise still there? Does it change depending on what gear?

My bearings went out at about 140,000 miles. The noise would get MUCH worse when the car was cold. I would expect the bell housing is already aliminum.

Parts aren't going to cost a lot but it is going to be lots of Labor.

wow thanks . Where can I find a used one for 200-300 without it needing a rebuild.

Ok. Nutruel is fine. Only when I excelerate does it get loud. My car is a 89 gxl. Dont think it has aluminum bell.

Third gear is the loudest when excellerating. Everything is fine when Im at cruise.
