Transmission Whine - rebuilt or replaced?

My transmission makes this whining noise when i am in first gear. its most noticeable during deceleration because the exhaust isnt making as much noise but its always there.

Does my tranny need to be replaced?

I'm pretty sure my synchros gone anyways because sometimes i grind gears randomly and i need to blip the throttle for it to shift. Also sometimes i need to let the clutch out and put it back down to get it into gear...

I know TII trannys are usually pretty cheap so im not too worried about it but...is this bad?

ALSO, my car shakes a bit on the highway. I had my wheels balanced and it shakes less, but still does it. Could this be caused by the tranny?

if it grinds= bad syncros
if it whines= bab bearings of some sort..

but if your low on fluid it will do those things also....

id drain your fluid and put in some redline gear oil, or another good name brand ( whats it called exactly? )this should give u the most life of whats left in your trany.

ive drove rx-7 with atrany whine for a couple yrs before the trany went out, ( 60 K miles)

yeah check your trany fluid and you might think about wanting to bleed the clutch, that might help you shift easier cause there could be some air in the system

Mine does that exact same thing, I had it looked at and some guy said my syncros and bearings are bad. He said it would probly be fine for a while longer but I'm fixing to change mine out rather soon.

all manual trans are going to whine at so point or another, I mean come on they're almost 20 years old. feed it some good trans fluid and she'll treat you right.

Does the whine go away with the clutch in? Could be something as simple as a throwout bearing, just a thought though.

Tranny whines in first gear

If tranny whines in first gear like mine does, then main input shaft tranny bearing is worn. This bearing wears with mileage by losing its initial coating. If synchros are bad, then shifting is difficult.

My 1988 NA tranny started whining at 215K miles. Changing tranny fluid with normal gear oil, not synthetic, reduced noise. From purchasing car in 1988, I changed all fluids regularly including tranny. Will need tranny rebuild after another 40-50K miles.

Please indicate if Redline MT-90 tranny fluid reduced tranny noise as I am considering it.

Thanks
