transmission tips

Hi Guys,
Trying to do a chevy conversion in a 91. Curious to know what kind of a manual transmission I could match it with.
Basically trying to use the car for drift.
I d appreciate your tips.
Many Thanx.

You're going to be pretty much limited to a T56 which is $$$$, or a T5 which is generally regarded as too weak for a V8.

I guess it depends on the Chevy you wish to install.

The 3 cylinder from my neighbours Geo Metro is was never installed in any RWD vehicle as far as I know, so you'd need to make a custom bellhousing to mate it up to the stock RX-7 transmission. Or convert the car to FWD.

There are many RWD transmissions for the 3600 V6 though I'm betting all will require some transmission tunnel beating and a custom driveshaft. You'll run into shifter location issues as well.

The 4 cylinder turbo Ecotec is a great engine and you can find suitable RWD transmissions in the Solstice and Sky. Again, you'll need to figure out mounts, shifter location and driveshaft.

The Duramax diesel is a big big, so you may not fit it under the hood but they typically come with very stout Allison transmissions. You'd need to make a new transmission tunnel to fit it, however.

Quite a disappointment when you reach under the hood.
