Transmission swap

I just recently picked up a turbo swapped s5 gxl from another forum member on here, the trans is toast I THINK. It's basically stuck in third but you can get it into neutral with a great deal of difficulty but it only goes back into third. You can feel other gears but you can't grab them. So rather then mess with it I'd rather just get a new one, but my question is will an NA S4 trans work on a NA S5 setup with little to no modification?

You want to put an NA transmission on a TII swapped GXL?

So long as you use the crossmember from the same series as the car....

Or is it the same series transmission? I'm sure a quick search will yeild the proper results.

Basically wondering if I can replace a S5 na transmission with a s4 na transmission

I failed to mention its a s5 gxl turbo swapped. It has the turbo s5 engine with a s5 na drivetrain.

You may wanna try the "2ng gen specific" threads as supposed the "non-technical and pictures" ones. Considering this is a pretty technical question, lol.

Yes you can use a s5 n/a trans i went through several transmissions on my auto to.manual swaped fc both s4 and s5.
You may want to look into swapping a t2 trans and either the t2 rear or the mamatrix driveshaft

please excuse my spelling havnt figured out how to turn off autospell on my phone yet

I have the whole s5 n/a drivtrain with an s4 clutch type lsd on my turbo swap and is holding up just fine. My tranny even has 198k miles on it, and is still works great. Once it blows I'll finish with the whole tii swap.

Thread moved.

S4 NA transmission into an S5 NA will just require that you have an S4 NA crossmember. It must match the transmission, not the car.

If you don't have the matching crossmember, you can also swap on the tail housing from your S5 NA transmission. This would allow you to use the S5 NA crossmember.

Vert/Coupe Trans Swap

I'm replacing the transmission on my s5 na coupe. The new transmission I got is from a convertible s5, i noticed that the brace on the bottom of the trans doesn't bolt up the same on the convertible transmission. So if I get a brace from the convertible will it bolt to the body of the coupe?

Well the problem is the one that came off my coupe has bolt holes for the mounts on the bottom of it, and the one that came off the vert that i'm going to put on doesn't have the bolts holes on the bottom of it. So I'm kinda like uh wtf.

I'm not worried about its integrity matched with a turbo engine, just trying to figure out which transmissions I can use because I have a few s4 na transmissions laying around.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll start digging around for a crossmember!

Threads merged. You don't need 2 threads about the same topic.

As I already explained, the transmission will require a matching crossmember. The Y-bracket on S4s attaches at the bottom, and the Y-bracket on S5s attaches w/ 4 bolts on the sides. That's why you can't mix and match the mounts/crossmembers.

Sorry I posted a new one in the second gen specific before I saw you moved this one into that section.

Okay so the trans out of my s5 coupe must have been replaced at some time with an s4 trans. I guess the easiest thing to do at this point is to either track down a s5 crossmember or weld the broken shifter rod cover back together.
