It really is not that hard--I did the conversion. the hardest part was drilling all the spot welds out of the manual car and welding them into the auto car. there are write-ups out there that go step by step. I left my instrument cluster in (It shines a big R when I put it in reverse). the write up wants you to use brackets instead of welding -in case your dont have a welder

Its not hard. If the years don't match you'll be having some extra parts to buy (different series flywheel).

I'd say the hardest part is sourcing the parts. If you run into a bind, Kevin at rotary ressurecetion saved me a couple months of searching for a flywheel. Also Dan at Atkins helped me get my clutch hydralics working and shipped a part to me crazy fast. Both are awesome guys and great to do business with. I swear they must have rotary parts everywhere in their shop/homes.

Its not -hard- however it is involved. You will need to either fab or buy brackets for the tranny crossmember, but other than that, its going to be pretty much plug and play.

You'll need to buy a pilot bearing seal from a mazda dealer or mazdatrix. Your best bet is to call them and make the order now so that you have it when you start the project. the pilot bearign itself can be bought to the dealer, mazdatrix, or almost any auto parts store. My clutch kit came with one, and I bought a spare at checkers (aap).

You will have to do a little bit of wiring (pretty easy) and thats about it.

Goodluck!

Theres Several. I suggest you find all of them and take them all in... The first one to read is probably the one at Kevin's site...
rotaryressurection.com and then click on TECH, IIRC thats where it is. The next one can be found in the RX7Club 2nd Gen Archives

3rd you'll have to search for, its not in the archives (i don't think) but details the easiest wiring format (what I used, only takes about 10 minutes to wire reverse lights and clutch switch)

You'll probably want to swap out the rear-end gearing because your 5spd had 4.1 (unless its a GTUs) and the Auto has a 3.9. I'm running a 5spd with a 3.9 and get about ~18mpg in the city.

3.9 gearing: better mpg, less acelleration, higher top speed
4.1 gearing: worse mpg, more acceleration, lower top speed

I just finished the swap on Memorial Day.

It sounds like you already have the donor car for most of your parts.

If you have some experience working on your car, Kevin's write-up will be pretty straightforward for you.

I had access to a lift. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think it would be much more difficult without it.
